Pricing and plans

The low initial price may change. The X Series’ basic X1 product line starts at a low price and can grow to a complete call center offering.

Pricing for the basic X1 service starts at $15 per user per month, which is lower than in our previous review of 8×8. The price of the basic X1 service is $5 lower than Intermedia’s Editors’ Choice award-winning competitor and $15 less than Vonage Business Cloud’s lowest price. This level is far more than a basic service. It includes unlimited voice calls, call handling and support for multisite or multi-level autoattendants. You can call unlimited to 14 countries with the X2 plan for $25 per month. It also includes video and audio conferencing as well as chat. The service is compatible with many small and large enterprise apps. The X6 package is available at $115/month for call centers. It includes advanced features such as skills-based routing, IVR and customer relationship management (CRM), detail analytics, journey mapping, and call recording.

Check out our Microsoft 365 Business Voice Review. Managing your contacts is a major concern for any communication solution. Unlike Intermedia Unite, 8×8 allows you to import your contacts from both Microsoft Outlook and Google Contacts directly from the desktop client. All changes to synced data must be made within the source application. Technical support was needed for an authentication problem when importing Google contacts. We were able to trace the problem down to network content filtering that blocked some Google authentication APIs.

Although all of this was handled well, it was quite common in Vo. IP competitors. Advanced voice features are supported by 8×8, including monitor, whisper, barge and monitor. These feature allow third parties to listen in and barge into calls, or whisper in the ears of callers. These tools are used at many call centres where supervisors monitor the employees working in customer service departments. It is useful to have a secretary who screens calls for an executive, and needs to let the boss know of important calls.

Switchboard’s app offers all the functionality needed for a switchboard operator. It is web-based and provides access to many functions. After selecting a specific user the operation can place, transfer, or park a call plus send an incoming call to voice mail. An attachment can also be sent to the user. It will show up under the Switchboard status. A text message can be sent to a user by clicking on the message icon.

8.8×8 is my favorite!

I work with a lot of different companies and help them choose a variety of software and technology vendors. When replacing phones, I usually choose 8×8 to be one of three options. There has only been one occasion where we couldn’t fit them due to too many lines and excessive cost. Overall every client I have connected with 8×8 has ended up loving them. You can enjoy the best service as long you have reliable internet. The customer service team is also outstanding.

It’s easy to manage your phone system

You will see the most significant benefit in simple outgoing and incoming call management. I have over 70 clients who could call at any given time and it is important to be able to easily view any missed calls/voicemails/text messages so that I can return the calls. 8×8’s service is more than satisfactory to me especially given the price.

It is easy to navigate and use because of its intuitive visual layout. I can manage both incoming calls and outgoing calls easily from my computer. It is also very easy to add contacts when they call. The application provides handy desktop notifications which allow me to stay on top of any missed calls/voicemails/text messages I missed while I am away from my business phone.

This application may be quite resource-intensive. My computer has been running fine for a while, even though it is several years old. But anything newer would make me worry. Application notifications can become difficult to see if the computer isn’t being restarted frequently. The issue has not appeared since I began restarting my computer each 3-4 days for reasons that include 8×8 software.

It offers valuable collaboration and calling features, as well as mobile tools and other useful features. Although 8×8 is priced lower than its competition, the system has just as many features. 8×8’s support staff was excellent during our research. This and other reasons are why 8×8 is the top phone system for small companies in 2021.

Your network must be configured properly for voice traffic.

Your IP phones will be ready for use when you order them directly from 8×8. Phones purchased through an outside vendor will require configuration by an 8×8 representative. The functionality will be the same with both, but it will take you less time to set up if the phones are bought directly from 8×8.

In addition, 8×8 offers a 1-hour technical support session that will guide X Series users through all the steps. This extra assistance can prove invaluable for small businesses with no IT staff. Express plans enable users to setup and configure their network on their terms. The Express plan doesn’t offer the same support level as the X Series plans.

Once the phones are up and running, the entire system can be set up and managed via the online portal. This portal allows you to create employee extensions or ring groups and can also be used for managing the system. It is accessible via the 8×8 website. You can access it to view billing information, call log reports, and request help.

Administrators have direct access to the portal and can control the automatic attendant. They can upload greetings, or pre-recorded messages. 8×8 also offers an audio production store for professionally recorded options.

An employee can connect to the online portal via their mobile or desktop phone or other computers connected to internet. The system allows employees to use a softphone on their computer to make and receive calls, review the company directory, check their voicemail and message co-workers. The portal can be used to send and receive faxes online, conduct Web conferences, or make video calls.

Since we started using their hosted VoIP service, 8×8 has proved to be 100% reliable and steady for us. Our service has never suffered any downtime. We also haven’t had missed or dropped calls. This is great news.
