Review Video:

The possibility that a station has a poorly maintained restroom is one of the worst things about a long-distance road trip. Even worse, some gas stations have no locks on their doors. You know what the jokes are? Having to keep the door open like Game of Thrones characters, while you do your business, is not just a joke.

Handy to have when faced with a broken door lock.

It’s our hope that the Addalock Portable Doors Lock manufacturers share this feeling with us. This is the Addalock Portable Lock, which you use for adding a lock to your door. Although it’s clever wordplay is not likely to be as useful as the Addalock’s utility and peace of mind.

Materials & Aesthetic

From the pouch, you can see the Addalock looking like something that would be found in an emergency kit. As you would expect, the plate of metal is strong and sturdy, while the insert made from brightly colored plastic looks similar to the ones found on the internet.

What makes it so red? Rishon Enterprises who made Addalock states that the red color is meant to signal safety. If you travel with your child, it is important that they can clearly see the Addalock even when the light isn’t on.

The metal plate is made out of an exotic-sounding alloy of chrome-plated carbon steel. We are not sure of the type or brand of plastic used to make the bright red lock housing. It feels extremely strong and tough so we assume it is ABS plastic. However, the plastic may not perform as well as carbon-steel but it certainly is not a Fisher Price Toy.

You get a complementary pouch with matching red in the package as a nice extra. This pouch is printed with the Addalock logo, giving it that hardware store feeling. Once secured with Velcro, the Addalock slips in snugly. The Howsarlock Metal Portable Lock was reviewed previously. We noticed that the lock jingles when in use. The Addalock is able to do this without any problems thanks to the handy pouch.

Comparison

The differences between the two products were unclear so I wrote this review. Since I had one to keep at home, I thought I could also take it with me when I travel. Or, I could return them if they were not satisfactory and get another one.

This case is much more luxurious. The case features thick vinyl and a hook-and loop strap.

Addalock case. The Red Handle in Addalock is pictured at the bottom. It has a greater grip than the hole at the top.

It also has a bigger Red Handle that the MasterBolt. This may indicate it is more durable and therefore harder to break. Although they are identical, the Addalock appears to be more durable than the MasterBolt and is therefore easier to break.

Red Handles comparable – Addalock left, MasterLock right. Addalock’s Track may also be slightly longer that the MasterBolt to help with circumvention.

PDL Tracks Comparated (left: Addalock; right: MasterBolt). The Addalock Track takes *slightly* more time.

Addalock Review: Safe On The Move #Travel Lock

A lock you can carry with you anywhere. Addalock can be carried anywhere with you as a compact, effective tool. Since safety is my top priority and I have a wandering child, I was curious about this device. While Addalock isn’t meant to be used for special needs children, it has many useful uses. When my daughter was young she would get out every door. I had very limited impulse control so we were extremely vigilant. She cannot get out of the front door without bolts and additional security. Our family is always on the move together, even as she grows older.

This past weekend we had the chance to do a quick overnight camp for kids with special needs. The lock was so easy to use that I decided I’d take it with me. The use of the lock at home was very simple, as well as in the hotel. I appreciate the small size of this lock. You will receive instructions and a tiny carrying case.

Addalock will cost you $20. It is well worth the price. I will admit when I pulled the lock out of the package at first I thought it looked a bit like a can opener with handle. And initially I thought the instructions looked pretty tricky to figure out. However, it was possible to get the lock working with just a little patience. It won’t fit every door. The device helps you determine if the lock will work. The measuring instrument will indicate that there might be a problem with the strike plate. Don’t force your door shut. It was simple and easy to carry. It is also affordable. Addalock comes in at $20.
