The results of my testing were impressive

Practical Golf has a limited number of reviews. This is because one player’s experiences with clubs cannot be predicted. Many of you would like to see the results so I am more than willing to try new things to find out if any changes are made.

Titleist 917D3 driver compared to Callaway Epic Flash. Since I play low spin, the Titleist driver was custom fitted and optimally suited to my swing. A lot of golfers found the 917 D3 too spinny, something that they have addressed recently in their TS series. However, I love my Titleist driver and it has worked great for me over the past two years. The following are my results.

Club Ball Speed (mph) Total Spin (rpm) Launch Angle (degrees) Carry Yards Total Yards

Titleist 917 D3 149 2076 14.4 247 275

Callaway Epic Flash 151 2077 15.5 259 287

I saw a significant gain in distance which was a combination of launching the ball a bit faster and higher. I registered some of the longest drives I’ve ever seen on my launch monitor with ball speed approaching 155 mph (I usually don’t crack 150 mph) and some drives going more than 290 yards.

You could say I was a little impressed with the Callaway Epic Flash. While it’s possible that I could have dialed the driver in a bit better with a better shaft/head combination than I did, my experience was limited to what I had on hand. As an aside, I liked the design of the club. The impact was fantastic. Those are subjective thoughts and can vary from one player to the next. When deciding whether to buy a driver, performance should be considered.

Callaway Epic Flash

Callaway Epic Flash Flash Callaway Drivers Flash Face Review The Callaway Epic Flash Drivers, now available, are yet another proof of why this brand remains a pioneer in driver design.

To be truly believed, Flash Face is a stunning performer.

* First Look at the Callaway Epic Flash driver

Callaway invented the Jailbreak technology that gave rise to Epic’s first drivers two years back. Epic has become a favorite piece of golf equipment. Jailbreak provided incredible speed and performance gains.

What we have with Epic Flash is another game changing leap in driver technology that looks set to eclipse the advances of its forerunner.

I first tested both the Epic Flash and Epic Flash Sub Zero drivers at Callaway’s Ely Performance Centre in Carlsbad, California, at the beginning of December and I’ve been playing with them extensively ever since. The drivers have all the performance qualities of Rogue or Epic, and they are both worthy replacements.

I will explain.

Overall impression

Many websites offer the ability to run all of the drivers’ numbers and compare them. Let me be your guest if you decide to hire a driver based on only those numbers and the tests. What is optimal for one golfer is far from ideal for the next. However, I wanted to know how frequently golfers replace their driver. So I took to Twitter to find out.

According to me, most golfers replace their drivers when new technology or ideas are introduced. 77% of golfers use a driver less than 3 years old. You might be one of these golfers and wondering if it is time to replace your driver with the latest technology.

The question is whether spending $500+ on an upgrade to your equipment is worthwhile, or if it is within your financial means. If you’re serious about improving your game, a professional fitting expert should be on your list.

Callaway Epic Flash should be your first test driver.

Callaway Epic Flash Driver Review 2021

This should not be confused with the Epic Driver, Epic Sub Zero Driver, and even the Epic Flash Star.

Yes, it’s probably time they put the Epic name to rest for a while, regardless of that fact, the standard Epic Flash driver is one that is certainly worth our review.

The Flash Drivers are some of the most talked about clubs in the golf market right now.

We will be comparing the Callaway Epic Flash Driver to other Epic Drivers, as well as to other Drivers available on the market.

Callaway Epic Flash Driver Reviews Similar to Epic Flash Sub Zero’s, the driver also comes with a sliding-weight. For the Epic Flash Sub Zero, you have a 12-gram weight and in this Epic Flash, it’s a 16-gram weight.

The Epic Flash is designed for the mid to high handicap player. For those with lower handicaps, the Sub Zero will cost you more. A heavier weight can lead to a greater draw or fade bias.

This driver was created to allow players to have more control and forgiveness over their ball flight, but also increase their ball speed. It’s a huge task to complete a product launch.

Conclusion

Callaway Epic Flash’s performance this year has been exceptional. Both Irons and Drivers have shown an improvement in performance over the Epic Flash and have set new standards when it comes time to compete.

The one true downside to the Epic driver was the price point when it was first released.

This car is ideal for weekend 15 handicappers. Not all those who have $550 can spend it on one club.

Callaway flashes are going to be more popular as there will be more deals.

Important to remember, as hopefully was stated in the review: The time and work that went into flash drivers will have a significant impact on the future game and technology for golf clubs.

Kory is my name and Hawaii is where I call home. As a child of a golfing family, I played since the age of 5. One of my uncles had me chop down some golf clubs, put some grips on them and joined my stepdad on his range. In my twenties, living in Las Vegas, was when I first learned to play the game. I played golf year-round by spending my winter breaks here in Hawaii, but never competitively, just as a means to spend time with my family. I lost my love for golf during and after college, but after some friends dragged me back onto the course 2 years ago, I’ve been fully obsessed all over again. There are many playing partners, including former college D1 golfers and High School State Champs. But I don’t care much about who they play with. I go on the golf course because I have fun, regardless of whether or not I am playing well.

Although I have never been a member of a club, I don’t currently hold an official handicap. I shoot between 80 and 83, play at 6300-6500 yards, and I am comfortable with that distance. While I currently have a 9 hdcp at 18 Birdies, the test selected me for Arccos. This will help to determine my future game. Although I have a lot of strengths, my weaknesses include being able generate decent clubhead speeds for my stature. But consistency is a problem and the inability to hit makeable putsts. A driver’s swing speed of 103 to 105 mph is my average, which I believe is a good swing speed. Also, I am known for having a smooth swing. Many times, my friends have said to me that they play golf because it’s their favorite sport. If I am required to put my irons on the fairway for position, then I won’t be having a great time. If I have to, it’s because I want to let my big dog eat. I avoid courses that require me to hit irons off the tee for position.

My usual ball flight has a middle-height (or what my mind considers to be mid height) draw. If I’m stuck or get blocked, I either have an over draw/hook, which I use to offset the situation. Since Flash fitting I have worked to get my path moving outwards more. More on this later.

Current WITB:

I like driving the driver’s seat and testing their capabilities for my own game. The fact that I have had to switch three times over the past two years since joining MGS suggests I might enjoy it way too much. While none of them were horrible drivers, they all gave me an advantage over my previous driver each time that I test. Here’s a list of all my drivers from 2017 (each driver was fit at some point, custom at the local shop or on a range demo day).

Testing Results

After 11 rounds (63 shots) tracked using Arccos this past month, and a couple of range sessions, I can say that I am thoroughly impressed by Epic Flash. This review will not make me sound like the greatest Callaway fanboy. However, this driver makes my smile every time I look at it.

Looking (9 of 10 points). The form looks, to me, like it is ready for address. This is a more stretched out shape than something like the TS3 with its pear-shaped design. They are subtle graphics that you can barely see unless you are in the sunlight. I love the glossy look, the fade of the carbon fiber as you move to the perimeter is very sleek, and the subtle green/yellow outer paint is a nice little touch. The driver is stunning when paired with the simple Callaway Chervon alignment sign.

It’s a different story on the bottom, which is why it didn’t get a 10. It doesn’t really matter to some people because they don’t see it. However, I didn’t feel it right not to give the score an “perfect” score, if there were areas I felt could be improved. Although I didn’t like the yellow/green colorway (except for the border pinstripes), it is not what I would choose.

At the back of this photo you can see more carbon weave. After 11 rounds, the face still holds its shape.

Sound and Feel (8 out 10 points) This thread has seen a lot discussion regarding the sound of the driver, with many different views. As this topic is very subjective, each individual could perceive a totally different sound. To my ears, the sound is more of a “crack” than a metallic sound – like the difference between a wooden baseball bat and a metal one. While it does have a certain metal sound, due to its metallic construction, the carbon crown dampens that sound and alters the acoustics. You won’t get anyone to bump their head to check your range. But your playing friends will notice when you have struck the middle and BOOMTOWN USA sings its national anthem. It sounds great!

Although I feel the whole face is soft, it feels quite smooth overall. It’s simple for me to identify where my target is on the face. I also find that the sweet spot of the skin feels very springy. This allows you to know instantly when your middle point has reached. This helps me to tweak my movements mid-round. Although it isn’t Mizuno butter-forged soft, it feels soft enough not to feel cheap but firm enough not to send you deep. It didn’t give me any different feelings.

Basic Characteristics (20 out of 20 points). Yes, this driver gets a perfect score. This driver performs better than the TS2 I had, which I gave up after just two rounds. TS2 wasn’t given a chance because of its ill-fitting shaft. But the Flash results have been so impressive that I wouldn’t mind trying any other currently on the marketplace – that’s a huge compliment from a driver who is a master.
