Hot drivers are expected to live up their name.
Hearing the word hot makes me think distance, pure distance, and ball speed coming directly off the clubface. Callaway X Hot is able to offer some of these speeds, as well as forgiveness. All this at an extremely affordable price.
Callaway X2 Hot Driver comes with the VFT Face technology that Callaway has mastered in the last few years. This technology allows the user to have a variable face thickness over a large sweet spot.
It is great when your face allows you to forgive more in the poor spots but gives more grace and performance in the sweet spots.
Callaway’s lightweight titanium-drivers have made great progress as a business. They can be used to travel great distances.
You can read almost any review about a Callaway Driver and see “very high ball speeds” being mentioned throughout.
Callaway’s premium car driver is not the Callaway X Hot. You get a more affordable and forgiving choice at a reasonable price.
There are alternatives
TaylorMade Model M2 The TaylorMade Model M2 Driver provides the same range and forgiveness of the X-hot. Also, the price tag for M2 is around $249.
Remember that sometimes, a club will just look better to someone than to another when you read a review. The club just looks and feels better to you, so there may be no other way of describing it.
Because of this, we have tried to present a number of alternatives for you to consider. Callaway may not be for everybody, but this Callaway X Hot Driver Review might convince you that it is for you.
If you’re looking for greater adjustability, then the Cobra F9 could be an option.
This club is sure to fit more golfers, with the adjustability and shaft options available the F9 could work well for either a scratch player or a handicapper.
The X Hot has a much wider range. You have the option to set your adjustable hosel for a more fade-like or draw effect, and also adjust the driver’s launch.

A $500 driver doesn’t make sense for a beginner. However, an X Hot with its adjustable lie and lightweight performance shaft is a better choice.

Speed Frame Face
The first thing that obviously grabs your attention with the X-Hot driver is the finish. Callaway has chosen a matte gunmetal grey finish for the crown. You will also find a unique alignment tool on the crown and some tiny red, black, or grey graphics around the crown’s edges. The grey crown may be appealing to your eyes, but the sole of the club adds a great contrast. Callaway chose to use red and white for the sole of X-Hot. They are an excellent contrast to the black crown and face in muted gray, and make the whole package work extremely well together.
Face and Head
This is the one area that I think the X-Hot excels in. Not because it is radical, but instead because it is so clean and classic looking. The X-Hot’s head is a well-rounded, evenly shaped shape that doesn’t have the triangular look common to many other heads. It is clear that the X-Hot is a 460cc engine, but it has a subtle style that isn’t overwhelming to the eye. Obviously the finish plays a role in this though as well. Overall, the driver is clean and timeless.
To review the X Hot driver, I used it in 11.5° loft paired to the stock-red Project X velocity shaft.

Over 10 years I have been reviewing and testing club clubs.
These are my thoughts overall and my experiences with Callaway’s driver.
Callaway is a different company today. It’s evident in the products they make and in their marketing. Callaway was once the leading name in drivers. Big Bertha, still the top-selling driver ever. In the last couple of years Callaway had fallen behind in their market share. It was a combination of poor timing, a couple of failed innovations and just bad luck. Callaway was determined to turn things around from the top. It is already paying off. They hired some of their longest-serving tour execs, increased the number of their products and stepped up marketing. Consumers really reap the benefits of this bottom to top change. The X Hot driving machine is one of their newest products. This lightweight bomber is easy to use and produces a lot buzz.
It is an excellent product that has won numerous awards.
The X Hot model is less technically advanced in Callaway’s driver range-up but it offers great features. It is an all titanium head with Callaway’s Opti-fit hosel. This model is available in the standard and pro variants. The speed frame face is the real “tech” behind this driver. Callaway designed the fastest face possible for this driver, and it shows. It is one of the most fast drivers I know. I’m happy to report that this driver helped me earn my X Hotbomb patch. It took me just 325 to get one. Although it was wind- and hill-aided, you can still feel the ball exploding from your face. It can rise rapidly and reach quite high. I had no problems elevating the driver. Although the launch did drop a little, I switched it to “open” which also made it more stable.
This sound has a metallic, pleasant sound. This sound is slightly stronger than RAZR drivers thanks to the titanium and composite use, but is still fairly muted. You can feel the metal ting in your ears when you hit a good one.

Distance was down compared with the Razr Fit Xtreme while a lack of forgiveness for some meant a wider dispersion.
Test 2013 Drivers The results of the testers’ tests were mixed on the matte grey finish. Joel liked the Tour’s compact design and felt the compression at impact. Kit loved the sharp flight outside, his dispersion of just 4 yards was impressive. Chris and Graeme had trouble getting the same distance as other drivers. A combination of draw bias, toe-up feeling, and a lack of confidence didn’t help.
Callaway’s X Hot woods and irons offer greater distance for a more affordable price. This range includes two sets. The X Hot Clubs are aimed at game-improvers while the X Hot Pros were designed for those with more skill. The range is the next in the X series.

Callaway Golf has been releasing many different drivers in the past few years trying to reach all skill levels. Callaway reduced their offerings this year to only three drivers. The RAZR Fit Xtreme is the successor to last years RAZR Fit and there’s also the X Hot Pro. The RAZR Fit Xtreme offers the most adjustability of Callaway’s three drivers and is aimed at the better player. The X Hot line, on the other hand, is aimed at golfers seeking a little more in the way of forgiveness and a lot more in the way of distance. Callaway calls this their hottest driver. The X Hot Line’s focus is on getting the ball far.
The company is very focused on the distance and has created their “X Team”, a group of long hitters. Callaway employees will receive a bomb patch for every 325+ yard drive they hit. A special patch called “4 bills”, which is available to those who have hit a ball over 400 yards, is also given. Callaway promises that although amateurs may not hit the ball as far as they used to, the club will make it easier for them. Detail of Test Model Description: For this review I received the standard X Hot Pro driver with 10.5deg Loft. The stock Project X velocity shaft was used by the club. It has a rigid flex.
Over the last few years, driver esthetics have gone under a bit of an overhaul. The go-to style for many years was dark and usually black. That has now changed with white drivers. Today, companies have become bolder about their appearances and many color options are available. Callaway chose a matte-grey crown as his choice for the X Hot Pro (and the standard X Hot). I prefer my drivers to have a clean look at address and over the last couple years my favorite looking drivers have been the two Mizunos that I’ve had because they were void of any alignment markings on the crown. This is also true for the diver. The club top doesn’t have any markings. It has an extremely simple and sleek look when set up behind the ball. It doesn’t look quite as sleek and simple as the standard X-Hot, which has graphics surrounding the club’s edge. A glossy black sole for the driver features white and red accents. The club’s face is black with some white grooves and an “X” symbolizing the sweet spot.
Of the drivers I’ve had over the last few years, this is the best looking that I’ve had. Like I mentioned, this club is simple yet elegant. This club’s finish is also a great choice. This matte gray, which is quite different from regular black, is very distinctive and stands out. It’s not as overpowering as the bolder colors. A matte finish makes it easy to avoid glare in even the most sunny conditions. Callaway achieved what they were looking for from a marketing perspective. This finish is unique and makes it easy to see when the driver is being used. But it also doesn’t make people turn their backs.

X2 Hot is, according to its name, twice as hot than last year’s X Hot. Like the 2013 X Hot line, the X2 Hot comes available in different options of 460cc standard and 440cc Pro, but for this review we’re simply going to look at the former because it fits the wider range of abilities from high to low handicappers.
The ad was posted on the Advertiser Website. GO TO PAGE. While it might not be surprising to read that a brand claims that a new car offers greater forgiveness, easier launch, longer distance, etc., it seems that I can confidently say that the Callaway X2 Hot has exactly those qualities.
With the X Hot driver, my average distance off the tee was 243 yards with 10 balls and a longest drive at 255 yards. My spin rate was 2700 RPM. Offline dispersion was less than 20 yards.
I shot 10 drives this time using GC2 shot results at City Point Golf. Moorgate – a drastic 18-yard advantage on the X Hot driver and the spin rate was pleasantly lower than the X Hot with around 2400 RPM.
These results were compared to my shot data from Big Bertha Alpha’s driver Big Bertha Alpha. X2 hot proved three times longer than Big Bertha (2250 rpm) and three times shorter than Big Bertha Alpha (2100 rpm).
