Cleveland Launcher Hb Turbine

HB turbo: 10.5@, 12.@; and HB turbo draw: 12@. We take: The clean aesthetics and straight lines of HB Turbo appeal to traditionalists looking for drives that can fly straight and long. A tester stated that the throttle looks tight at an address. However, shots were fired with great accuracy and flew straight enough. We love the matte finish.” Along with Cleveland’s superlight hosel, HiBore crown redesigned, counterbalanced shaft and deep-weighting sole pad, the turbocharged cupface provides the killer punch.

OUR VIEW: The HB Turbo’s no-nonsense design and sleek lines appeal to traditionalists looking for drives that can fly fast and straight. Our tester said, “It looks close at address, however, it feels great, and shots fired flew straight like a needle and plenty farther than that.” Love that matte finish as well.” In addition to Cleveland’s Ultralight Hosel, redesigned HiBore Crown, Deep Weighting sole pad and a counterbalanced shaft, it is the TurboCharged Cupface that delivers the knockout punch. TABLE OF CONTENTS: A cupface appears like it sounds. It is the shape of a cupface that the face extends outwards from the front. This creates a stronger clubface and allows for faster ballspeeds. For a more powerful launch, the HiBore Crown has been retuned to lower the CG. Deep Weight schemes raise the MOI and reduce twisting in off-center hits. For even greater forgiveness, the Miyazaki C. Kua’s shaft’s centre of gravity has been moved closer to the grip. Review 150+ gear items in our ClubTest 2021 collection. See Product Details. Cupfaces are a shape that extends past the front of the ball in cuplike shapes. It makes the head stronger and gives it greater speed across the entire clubface. The retweaked crown lowers the CG for a higher launch and greater forgiveness, and the deep-weight scheme raises the MOI to lessen unwanted twisting.

Performance

The physics are complicated and I’m not going to get into it. However, the MOI is an acronym for moment of inertia. It measures the body’s resistance against angular acceleration. More resistance means less spin at impact for a clubhead and more stability. With less rotation on off-center hits, higher MOI also equals straighter tee shots. Cleveland designers boosted the Launcher XL MOI 11% over the HB Turbo [full review HERE ], creating their highest MOI driver in company history.

It was clear flight but consistent carry that I witnessed on the range. That’s a great combination for confidently finding fairways. A notable feature was also the driver’s high trajectory, even with low spin. My test driver was at 10.5 degrees. It gave me my highest launch angle and is typical for me.

The Launcher XL may not physically offer the same crown step as the past models but it still retains the physics and rebound frame which creates a second flexzone. It’s a spring board designed to increase ball speed. Cleveland made a departure from previous models by adding a 12-position adjustable Hosel to the latest Driver. It allows golfers to custom-fit the club for their specific swing needs.

Performance and Feel

I have reviewed many Cleveland courses and felt that the driver’s category had the greatest potential for improvement. Cleveland is known best for their short games clubs. But, after playing the Launcher XL driver, it is now my belief that Cleveland will be changing.

I was stunned at how much faster the driver made me feel. The Launcher XL averaged 158 mph while I usually hover at 150 mph with my gamer-driver. There were even a few instances where I topped 160 mph a full 10 mph faster than my average without changing anything in my swing. As my carry yards were considerably longer than the average, I was shocked.

The Launcher XL also has a lot of power. Although it’s not something I care about, the Launcher XL is loud enough to make you forget the sound when your golf ball hits the fairway bunker. For me, center-strikes feel incredibly strong and muted. It produced instant feedback that shouted “Wow. You really caught this one!”. Dispersion was somewhat wider than I am used to for driver but it was not excessive. Cleveland does offer the Launcher XL in an “accuracy build” configuration where they take an extra inch off the shaft, if you prefer.
