Conscientious consumption is becoming more visible. You can also do reviews. Find plenty of unsponsored reviews of Everlane, Elizabeth Suzann, Only Child, Grana, and Cuyana on the site! It’s my goal to live a low-waste lifestyle and I love bags. These are the main differences and similarities that I observed between them (also, you can read the whole discussion on reddit here). First of all the dimensions. The Madewell Transport Tote in black with tan handles measures 14.5 inches by 14.25 inches by 6 inches by 6.25 inches. It has an 8.25 inch drop. The Cuyana Classic Leather Tote measures 13(h) x 18(L) x 5(w) inches with a 9 inch strap drop. So the Cuyana tote is a a little shorter, but a lot wider. Cuyana bags are soft, smooshy leather. It’s easy to fold it in half to make them less wide. (See the photo below).

Although the two totes look very similar, I believe the Cuyana bag is superior.

The Cuyana tote has amazing leather. It’s super soft and smells wonderful. Although the leather textures are quite different, it has an odor that reminds me of Balenciaga leather. Madewell Totes’ leather feels stiff, and it smells and tastes like cheap leather.

-The Cuyana Tote is manufactured in the US, and the Madewell Tote in China. (Cuyana is also a company that prides itself on producing quality items).

The Madewell Tote has a shorter strap, but that can mean a lot when carrying a tote bag with a coat over it. Cuyana bag seems to fit better than the Madewell tee.

The Cuyana tote also comes in 3 different variations: the classic, the tall tote and the zippered tote.

So as you can see, my vote clearly goes to the Cuyana tote over the Madewell tote. The Everlane tote would be my most favorite if we could have a wider discussion about the various totes I have (including here the Mansur Gavriel Tote) I love the smaller shape, the adjustable straps, and the two deep interior pockets with snap closures. You can just stuff things into the Mansur Gavriel and it will hold its shape very well. I think in general I’m just not a soft tote kind of gal. If I had to pick one though, this would be it.

While it is possible to travel light for weekends, it can be quite different to carry a bag around with you to stay there for 12-16 months.

Their Classic Zipper Tote was sent to me. It’s not so new as it is a reinterpretation of an old favorite. The zipper adds functionality to this bag which makes it more convenient than what I had before. It feels like my everyday life from one place or another.

It’s still the tote I would recommend if you’re looking for a minimal leather carry-all. It also looks and feels more expensive than it actually is. My Cuyana travel bag has traveled with me from Northfield, LA to Dallas for the past month. Cuyana is a travel case that I bought two years back. The bag looks better than ever so it’s safe to say I will keep using this tote even after my busy commute.
