Dagne Dover Legend Tote Review

Structured bags like the Dagne Dover Legend bag are available. It will stand strong, no matter how full or empty it is. It was my favorite work bag because I could put my laptop, lunch, change of clothes, water, and my work files inside. It was compact enough to be taken to client meetings. For conferences, the Legend Tote is my favorite. You can place it anywhere you like: on the table, on a chair or on the ground. It can be carried over my shoulder and in my hand. If it isn’t too heavy, I will put it under my elbow. This allows me to race to my next seminar or networking event over cocktails. The Legend tote is a strong statement piece. You will get strangers asking questions about the bag when you take it to conference, or at a restaurant.

Although the bag has a lighter weight, it is easier to place on your shoulders, even when you are wearing a jacket. The bag looks the same, but you’d never know if it was the original.

I loved it as my work bag, but I drove to a parking lot and only walked about a block to the office. I’d walk to client meetings, but only a couple blocks, and I usually left extra stuff (lunch, water, etc.) at my desk. When I got to a conference I didn’t need much, other than my laptop and essentials, it was not overwhelming. As I gained swag, documents and other items, the bag would be small and not too bulky.

I have taken my Legend Tote with me on many flights. However, it won’t fit under an airplane seat. You may need to open the zip and take out some of your stuff if you’ve stuffed it tight. But the bag emerges looking like brand new, even after flying for some hours. It’s also easy to slip out and locate your headphones or lipbalm, even with a middle-seat.

Dagne Dover Legend tote does not contain leather. Instead, it is coated with fabric that has the same effect as Saffiano leather. It is easy to spot clean and doesn’t rub away when scuffed. Dagne bags have been around for several years, and they still look great. While it may not be in use for very long, I advise that you stuff it. This will help keep the bag from becoming bent and squished in closets. Take care of your Dagne bag, and you will have years and years worth of stylish work.

Dagne Dover Allyn Tote Review

Dagne Dover Allyn is smaller and softer than the previous model. Even though it features a reinforced base, the bag’s walls are soft. The bag can easily fold in half if not fully filled. The interior organization is what makes this bag stand out among other totes. The Allyn bag has everything you need, with pockets, compartments and pouches. This is a preferred work bag when working at a coworking space or when I want a bag to take on a business trip as when it’s not full of laptops and files it can pass as an everyday handbag. So I don’t have a separate bag or purse for informal dinners and networking events. It can be taken with me to work and back without feeling weighed down.

Check out my review of Dagne Dover Allyn Tote. This is what I packed in it. Although it’s smaller than the Legend Bag it holds plenty and makes it a versatile bag that can also be used as a work bag. The bag can be used for both work and personal use. The leather is luxurious, durable, and it retains its colour even after it gets scratched.

Some of you have let me know you prefer the Allyn Dagne Dover tote to the Legend because you take public transportation to work and the Allyn takes up less space on a crowded subway car and isn’t as heavy for the walk to the office.

Although the Allyn Tote doesn’t zip shut at the top, it has strong magnets to keep it closed. The tote will not close if it is full. The bag can hold a 1 inch binder. One reader inquired about how the bag functions with it. My laptop, paper planner, essentials, and 1 inch binder were all able to be stored in the bag. The bag was easy to carry over my shoulder but it wouldn’t close on the top. However, when I put basics in it (laptop and cord, purse essentials, a journal or paper planner, a bottle of water and maybe a couple other small things( it clasps shut and the magnet really gets the job done. Legend Tote might be the bag for you if you prefer a bag which zips completely closed.

Let’s start with the history of my 15″ Totes, taken from my “Tote Size Guide”.

Dagne Didver’s classic piece was the 15″ Tote. It also served as the original clutch and wallet, until Dagne Dover introduced the Mini Tote in 2014. Its width is approximately 18.5″, but its interior laptop sleeves can only hold 15″ laptops. Visually, the key distinction between the 13-inch Tote and 15-inch Tote is the fact that the Tote’s handles fold down easily while the Tote’s handle can stay straight up. It was designed to be lighter than the original and corrected several issues related to its handles. This latest version of the Tote has slightly different dimensions to the Totes this size released before March 2, 2017.

Dagne Dover’s leather bags are usually my favorite, but I found myself reaching for the 15″ Tote more often than usual this year. My parents live a few hours away, and it seems to be the perfect size for the car trip and an overnight stay with them. Although a Large Allyn or Landon could also work for this purpose, the Landons don’t have as much laptop padding (I take my 15″ work laptop with me), and I’ve found the Large Allyn is too large and has a tendency to slouch/tip over.

Few things before we start

Dagne Dover bags now have different names. Instead of being labelled by their size, the bags are now called “Classic”, “Legend”, and “Midi”.

Update: I think that the midi appears to have disappeared.

It comes in two sizes.

What makes a bag different from all others?

Legend – It is similar to the original 15,” tote. But it is actually 14′” and much slimmer.

Classic – This is the closest to the original 13” tote, but is slimmer in size(this specific model is not reviewed here but I have the 15”)

Midi – This is a new version between the bigger tote & the Petite (you’re in luck! Here’s a review.

Let me give you a quick Dagne Dover mini tote review. It is sturdy but may feel heavier if it’s used to carrying nylon.

In any event, the Signature Legend tote (pictured here) is $265 and big enough to fit sneakers as well as a laptop; the classic tote is a more slimmed-down version for $245.
