Goose VPN’s setup is easy. Your account will be created immediately after you provide your email address and payment information (you won’t be billed for the trial period). It took only a few seconds to download and install the Windows application.

This is Goose VPN’s Windows application user interface. What company would ask your details for social media? You can disregard this request, and login with your existing username and password.

Open the client with a small window, which shows your connection status, default protocols, and current location.

You can not zoom in on the map, pan it around, zoom out or click to attach or disconnect. This is a static image.

The location list is a straightforward menu of countries, along with icons indicating P2P-friendly or specialist streaming servers. Because there’s not a standard Favorites system you might have to scroll around to find your most popular servers. If you have a very small network, scrolling will not be necessary. Our tests showed that connection times varied between IKEv2 and Open. They were fast at around 1-2 seconds for IKEv2, while they took 10-12 seconds for Open. VPN. Wire isn’t mentioned. Guard. No matter what protocol you use, the native Windows desktop notifications let you know when you are protected and when not.

Moving servers is straightforward and easy. Just choose the new location. Clients close any existing connections, then open a new one.

This was IKEv2 in our testing, however you can change this setting by clicking the Protocol tab within the Settings dialog. VPN, IKEv2, L2TP or even the old and insecure PPTP as your preferred protocol for all situations.

Goose VPN’s name is based on a Dutch boardgame called the Game of the Goose. This game was thought to have been the first one ever manufactured commercially. Goose VPN has entered a highly competitive sector, and is not like its predecessor. Unfortunately, Goose VPN has not been able to catch up to its competition, even those that are part of our Best VPN List like Express. VPN. Read our Express. VPN Review However, the Dutch virtual private network service is improving every time that we have reviewed it. So we checked in again to find out how it is doing. The results came back mixed this time.

Goose VPN delivers decent speeds, excellent streaming performance, and an outstanding privacy record. This is offset by its limited server list and unprofessional user interface.

For our Goose VPN review, “Mixed” will be the operative word. This service does not block Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime Video. Player. Its annual pricing plan is awesome, while its monthly plan is nothing short of gouging. In this review, we’ll cover Goose VPN’s feature set, pricing, ease of use, security, privacy and more before reaching our verdict.

Goose VPN’s features list is so well-organized it is almost inexistent. The features are not quite as extensive as Bitdefender VPN. (Read our Bitdefender VPN review) but they still have a lot we want to see.

Goose VPN offers a kill button it refers to as “smartsafe” that instantly shuts down your internet access in the event of a VPN connection drop. This feature makes sure that your internet access is secure.

Although it is a basic feature, “Smartsafe” is very important. To cut down on certain apps without affecting others, the kill switch isn’t possible. The connection will drop if it does. Astrill and other VPN services have created app-kill options to address this issue. Read our Astrill review. Goose VPN, however, does not offer split tunnelling. Split tunnelling is a way to use a more dangerous app (e.g. a torrenting client) through the VPN and keep it secured. You can also make your internet browsing faster by making it unsecured. Goose VPN is all-or-nothing.

Another confusing feature is the inability to connect automatically to the fastest server. Goose VPN is able to connect from any country. It does, however, have streaming and P2P servers.

This service gets one additional credit. It works across all devices and platforms. It can be installed on mac. OS, Windows, Android TV, Linux, Android, i. OS, Chrome or on a router. Every plan allows unlimited simultaneous connections (similar to Windscribe), making it possible to protect the entire house.

Goose VPN’s user interface appears simple, yet we found that almost anything can cause Goose VPN to fail. It is very easy to establish your first VPN connection. Anything else could lead to unfortunate results.

We were forced to discontinue and relaunch the app far more often than we wanted. Goose VPN is not without its merits, however the user experience remains a problem. Cyber offers a comprehensive review of a VPN service that’s easy to use. Ghost review instead.

Goose VPN payments are complicated. You will be sent an invoice by the company when you subscribe. It is due after your first month. The system is actually quite good, although it doesn’t provide any information regarding how it works. Two times we were charged to the incorrect subscription for creating an account.

It’s also evident that the Goose VPN website wasn’t translated by an English speaker. However, the text is still readable.

Once you’ve received your invoice, downloading Goose VPN is easy. After installing on the device, it took just minutes to install. The download pages for any unusual installation, such on a TV or router, are all quick and simple to use.

You will find very few buttons in the VPN desktop window, fitting with its minimalistic approach. It is possible to switch on your VPN, open a menu, and even change the protocol.

This map does nothing. It’s not bad, but map-based server options can prove to be too complicated (check out our Tunnel). For an example, see our Bear review.

The preferences panel’s “use best server automatically” box is misleading. It was initially confusing because it didn’t seem to be linked with anything. We realized that it does not allow you to choose from multiple server countries, but instead connects you with the fastest one in the country. The server menu might not open properly so you can’t select something for several minutes.

It’s frustrating but not the root problem. Goose VPN’s connection can be broken easily. Once we tried to switch from IKEv2 Protocol to IPSec, they refused to reply twice until we got connected.

Goose VPN has been one of our favorite streaming VPNs for a while. The streaming servers are able to bypass blocks and deliver shows at high speeds. However, it is unable to spoof UK servers sufficiently well to be able watch BBC programmes.

Goose VPN is similar to VPN Unlimited. (See our VPN Unlimited review). Goose VPN also has dedicated servers for streaming. Streaming servers need to be able unlock geoblocked content, while still maintaining streaming speeds that are sufficient for streaming video.

Netflix not only was unblocked but also the video ran smoothly and without any lag. Hulu also performed well. Amazon Prime Video was equally good.

Goose VPN has no UK streaming server so we used BBC i. The streaming and regular server versions of Player are available. Unfortunately, Goose VPN failed to deliver on its promise of streaming high-quality video.

Now, that our Goose VPN review is over, we plan to file the application in the same category of Surfshark. Although it may not be yet trusted completely, it has the potential to become something amazing.

Our biggest hangup the horrendous UI is a point on which we’re prepared to give Goose VPN the benefit of the doubt. It’s possible that the developers just broken the interface in this release and that it will be fixed within a couple of weeks. Right now, though, it’s a reason to be cautious.

We can fix all our problems, including the limited feature set and poor distribution of servers. There is also no live customer support.

Goose VPN’s streaming power , affordable one-year plan and good security policies are enough to keep us watching to see what it does next.

Right now, we don’t recommend choosing Goose VPN over one of our other favorites. Who knows what the future holds?
