Case

First, the G7 Fit appears stylish and elegant. G7 Fit comes with a frame made of metal sandwiched between two layers of glass. Such a combination is not common for smartphones of this price. OEMs are more likely to go for plastic frames and backs to cut down on costs. Additionally, LG has kept the bezels pleasingly narrow, which makes our review unit look more like an 800-Euro (~$902) smartphone than a 400-Euro (~$451) one. G7 Fit is premium in feel, with no gaps between materials. Our test unit was 153.2 x 71.9×7.9 mm by 156g. It is also smaller than the other devices we compared. The small footprint allows our review unit to sit comfortably in our hands, and there is no camera bump either so the G7 Fit will lie flat on a table without wobbling about like many flagships do.

Although the glass back adds a lovely touch to your review unit, it also has its downsides. One, the glass back can become too slippery for us and our test unit. It also tends to slip from our hands onto a table or desk that’s not flat. LG certifies G7.FIT as MIL STD-810G1 compliant. That means the device has passed 14 environmental and weather tests. The certification is not independent and cannot be verified by any agency or organization.

The G7 Fit is IP68 compliant too, the first digit of which means that the device has passed an eight-hour test to determine that it is dustproof. The G7 Fit can also be submerged for 30 minutes in water between 1 and 3 meters.

At the moment, the G7 Fit was only available in Europe. It is also known as New Aurora Black. The device will also come in New Platinum Grey in other regions.

Connectivity

It’s quite remarkable that the processor has been chosen. LG has equipped the G7 Fit with a Snapdragon 821 So. Like we already mentioned, the So. So. The So. LG adds 4 GB RAM to the Snapdragon 821, which is quite a bit by smartphone standards. This amount was also used for the G7 Thin. Q The G7FIT has MMC flash storage. However, it is slower than UFS 2.1, which OEMs now use in all their new flagships. LG does sell a 64GB model, though our review unit comes with 32 GB. This device can support up to 2 TB micro storage. SD cards should you fill up the internal storage and has dual-SIM functionality. Because the G7 fits has both internal storage and dual-SIM functionality, you can choose which one. LG equipped the G7 Fit with both a Bluetooth 3.5 mm headset and NFC. The former has almost disappeared from flagship phones.

Software

While the G7 Fit earns points for its hardware, it ships with outdated software. Our review unit arrived with Android 8.1 Oreo, which is comparatively up to date by LG’s standards . Worse still, LG has only released security patches up to October 2018, which were over five months old at the time of our tests. Our opinion is that any midrange smartphone in 2019 shouldn’t be this hopelessly out-of-date.

LG’s UI has been applied to Android 8.1 Oreo by the company, however, LG makes only minor visual adjustments to stock Android. This should make it easy to adjust to, even if Android is familiar to you.

The review unit we reviewed had minimal bloatware. LG includes its Smart Doctor service and a few of its other apps along with the usual suite of Google apps. The default navigation buttons on the G7 Fit are four. However, LG added a button that allows users to switch SIM cards quickly without having to go into Settings.

LG chose not to make the G7 Fit Widevine DRM Level 3 certified, frustratingly preventing it from being eligible to stream HD content via Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. Standard definition streaming is still possible, however LG must begin selling products with Level 1 certification to enable HD streaming. We have no idea why the company chose to do this as it is free to have a device Level 1-certified and OEMs are unable to upgrade devices from Level 3 to Level 1 via a software update.

Telephone Quality & Features

LG includes its range of telephony applications, which are well-designed and easy to use. Our only complaint about the call quality is minor. Our review unit’s earpiece could get too loud, and it reproduced the voice of our call partner well. Additionally, our voice was clearly picked up by the microphone during test calls.

LG equips the G7 Fit in Boombox speaker technology. It resonates onto surface like tablets and desks, delivering higher volumes and better reproduction of low frequency than other speakers. Placing the G7 Fit on a hollow object like an acoustic guitar, for example, creates a surprisingly full-bodied sound with almost something that sounds like real bass.

Accessories & Warranty

The G7 Fit comes with the standard set of accessories for a midrange smartphone. We received a pair headphones, which have the same braided cable as those found on the LG G40 Thin. A charger, and a USB Type C cable. LG includes a cleaning cloth with every flagship smartphone it makes, including the V20.

G7 Fit includes a 24-month manufacturer’s guarantee. For country-specific information, please refer to our FAQ Guarantees, Return Policy and Warranties.

Operation & Devices

The G7 Fit has a 10-point capacitive touchscreen as almost all modern smartphones do. Our inputs were reproduced quickly and precisely by the touchscreen, even down to the edges during our testing. Likewise, the accelerometer promptly adjusted the screen orientation if we rotated our review unit, while the fingerprint sensor consistently unlocked the device without delay.

Both the volume rocker and power button have good pressure points, as well as crisp keystrokes. They are comparable to the ones LG uses for its flagship products, in our opinion.

Display

One of the highlights of the G7 Fit is its display. LG equips the phone with a 6.1-inch, IPS panel. This panels operates natively at 3120×144040. Which translates into a 563 PPI pixel density. LG does reduce the resolution of the device to 2340×1080 as a default feature to improve battery life. To reduce the amount of power used by the display, you can lower the resolution further to 1560×720. You must restart your device each time you adjust the resolution.

The highlight of this show is the maximum brightness display, which Xrite i1Pro2 recorded as 993 cd/m2 across its entire panel and at 1014 cd/m2 centre. This brightness is greater than most smartphones, as well as being brighter than G7 Thin. Q Q.

We measured our review unit’s black value at 0.46 cd/m2, which was higher than any other IPS panel we tried. The black value of our review unit is higher than those on other IPS panel devices, but it doesn’t prevent the display’s excellent contrast ratio (which we measured at 2,204 to 1) Only the colour accuracy is disappointing, which is well beaten by the Honor 10 Lite Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) The 19.5:9 aspect ratio largely feels immersive too, although the G7 Fit’s broad notch may put off some people. The black bars will contain 16:9 content. However, You should still be able to zoom the display in other apps, such as YouTube. Tube should you wish to view full-screen videos.

Screen flickering/PWM detected 2358Hz = 15 % Brightness Setting

A display backlight flickers around 2358 Hz. This is most likely due to PWM. Flickering can be detected when the brightness level is below 15%. You should see no flickering above the brightness setting.

Users sensitive to PWM will not be able to notice flickering at frequencies above 2358 Hz.

Verdict

Review of the LG G7 fit smartphone. Test device courtesy of LG Germany.

The LG G7 fit is an attractive midrange phone with a great display. It is well-built and smaller than other comparison smartphones. LG made too many compromises for us.

There are few issues with the device, however LG decided to include an outdated flagship So. The C makes it run hotter than others and takes more power. LG did not make the battery last as long because of its high power consumption.

The LG G7Fit smartphone is midrange and confusing. While the smartphone’s contemporary design and brilliant display make it appealing, LG has made many inexplicable decisions that have ruined what could be a great phone.

LG G7 Fit’s display is what makes it so appealing. Even if there are some limitations, like low battery life and hot temperatures, the LG G7 fit will provide a great experience. We are not certain who the G7 Fit will be suited for because it costs significantly less online than what it retails at.
