Geocoustic technology was used on the TaylorMade M2 Driver. It changed how the sole looks, as well as the sound and feel. TaylorMade has called this driver explosive sound. (they aren’t kidding!)
The Center of Gravity can be fixed to the ground and placed low and back in order to maximize performance.
While the M2 driver has more adjustability than previous models, it’s not as great.
Speed Pocket technology comes with the club. This was enhanced to give more forgiveness on this Taylor Made M2 driver.
Although the M2 Taylormade Driver is a great piece of golf equipment, we will break it down a little further to make sure it’s the right choice for you.
Player Handicap
While it isn’t true that the M2 could not be used by a scratch player, it does mean that it was created for those who value forgiveness over playability.
The Taylormade M2 driver is not for those who want to play the ball well and make intentional draws and fades off every tee. For the high-handicapper, this Taylormade M2 model is ideal.
The TaylorMade M2 comes only with an adjustable loft sleeves, which is a departure from previous TaylorMade products.
I say only because in the past TaylorMade has made other clubs that allow you to move the center of gravity as well.
Having the ability to change the loft on this M2 and set it to the launch that you need is a great feature. The adjustability of loft is a fantastic feature for new players looking to improve their performance.
As we mentioned earlier in this Driver review, the M2 driver is a few years old. TaylorMade still offers the M2 driver, but there are limited custom shaft options.
It’s a very good option. Standard equipment includes the Fujikura Pro XL 58 Stiff, Regular and Senior Flex.
Alternatives
TaylorMade m6The TaylorMade m6 driver is longer than that of the M2. It is almost equally as forgiving, and the cost of the product was about twice that at the time this review was written.
Playing an old TaylorMade Burner Driver can significantly improve your feel and weight.
The M6 is a great option if you don’t have the budget for the best technology. The sound is also a little better with the M6 model.

The Cleveland Launcher Turbo was released in a different release to the M2 but is similar as far as forgiveness and distance.
Launch Turbo comes in at the same price as its predecessor.
Although the Launcher name is more appropriate for beginners than M2, it’s still a good option.
Sound & Feel
The TaylorMade drivers are distinguished by their adjustability. You can read my 2017 M1 comparison here. Both have a more firm feel to their faces, but the M2 seems stronger. This feels different, but it’s equally impressive. The M2 has a ton of response and still feels very powerful on the ball. Choosing between the two will come down to personal preferences.
Much like the feel, the M2’s sound is more prominent. The M2 has more pop than the typical driving range cannon sound. However, there is carbon in the crown. A pure shot of the face is heard firmly at range.
New sunken sole curvature made it easier and more stiffer to handle vibrations at impact. This was a breakthrough in acoustical design. The M2’s best-in class sound and feel was possible thanks to its increased stiffness.

I haven’t always been the biggest fan of Taylormade clubs but was pretty excited when the M series drivers came out. In this post, I’m going to be reviewing the Taylormade M2 driver and talking about whether or not it’s worth picking up.
I liked the M2 driver a lot more than the M1 because I found it much easier to hit. In my opinion, it’s a great driver for golfers who need a lot of help with distance and forgiveness. I got a good amount of distance from the club and it was a lot more forgiving than most on off-center hits. There was one problem I saw. It is still quite expensive, especially for a relatively new driver. The driver would work well for the average recreational player.
If the choice was up to me I’d spend a little bit more money and get a slightly newer driver. Even though the M2 was great, there are a few drivers that are still priced pretty similar that performed better for me (and I think you’d like them more).

Is M2 Driver Still Good?
TaylorMade M2 driver is a reliable and solid golf club. Although it doesn’t have the most recent technology, the club has enough power to handle the needs of the high-handicap golfer. The upgrade is well worth it if the equipment you’re using has limited forgiveness and range.

Taylormade M2 driver good for beginners?
TaylorMade’s M2 has just become more affordable to buy. Its unique combination of price, power, and forgiveness have pushed it to fifth. This driver is aimed at a competent beginner, who is moving towards a low 20-handicap ability. It has good forgiveness but a somewhat lower and stronger ball flight than the others we reviewed.
Which M2 Driver Is Best?
Fujikura XLR8 Pro 51 has the perfect shaft for TaylorMade’s M2 Driver. This shaft is perfect for high launch and medium to high spin. If you haven’t purchased Fujikura before, this shaft can be upgraded.
