Ergonomics

Makita’s 36V chainsaw was a popular choice, with many customers praising it. This new model is sure to improve on that. This saw a slight change in the physical design. Most notable improvements were to move the batteries from back to middle, as well as bringing back the D handle. The saw looks more and feels like a traditional chainsaw. The balance is improved by placing the batteries in the hands of the user.

One of the really nice things about using the Makita XCU03 (and having a sharp chain) is that the saw really does most of the work. This saw is lightweight enough to allow me to leave behind my gas-powered chainsaw. It cuts quickly and efficiently enough that it doesn’t take much of my effort. That’s the way a great chainsaw should feel while you use it.

The Bottom Line and Pricing At $389 for the kit and $279 as a bare tool, the Makita XCU03 18V X2 LXT Chainsaw fits in nicely as a supplementary tool. It’s great for small tasks such as trimming, pruning, and falling trees. Its combination of lighter weight, cordless convenience, and smooth performance make it one of my favorites to use in the 14-inch class.

As with most cordless chainssaws, there is a limit to the chainsaw’s run time. If you are on a roll, even with two 5.0-amp hour batteries included with it, they can be used in under 30 minutes. For a large amount of work, it will take you two to three sets. But that’s why this is really a tool to supplement your gas models and for punch list work. The landscaping and forest Pros will appreciate this tool. It is a great tool for any construction project that requires some attention before you can begin to get to work.

Could it use more power? It can. Could you go for a longer bar? Yeah, I think Makita has the foundation to make a bigger cordless saw. It’s not necessary to make improvements to this model. I hope to see Makita come out with a bigger saw down the road, but the XCU03 is one of the finest small bar cordless chainsaws available and doesn’t have much need to be replaced in this class.

Makita Electric Chainsaw Reviews Compact, lightweight, and portable, Makita’s electric chainsaws can be used for small tasks like trimming trees, or cutting down fence posts. They’re great to use in the garden and on construction sites.

Your neighbors will love the quieter, electric-powered chainsaws. They don’t emit fumes.

Makita’s Xcu04Pt1 Review: Phenomenal Cordless Chainsaw

Get two extra batteries with every purchase. Great value! ( ) I am pleased to share my Makita XCU04PT1 review. You have ever owned a Makita. This is your chance to get a Makita. Makita’s company has my highest respect. Their commitment to quality and durability is what I value most. Makita is a very old player in the cordless tool industry, with decades of experience developing and improving on technologies that are loved by both homeowners and commercial users. With over 275 products in their 18V LXT series of tools, Makita is considered the best 18V platform. Makita tools seldom overheat or stall thanks to a mix of STAR computer safety technology and brushless motors. Brushless motors are more efficient and use less energy, while STAR’s battery protection technology continuously monitors temperature, voltage, current, etc. to maximize performance and runtime.

Makita does not abandon older tools just because a newer technology appears. This is unlike most other tool makers. Makita’s 18VLXT batteries have been outperformed by the 40VXGT platform. However, Makita has stated that they will continue to develop and support the older battery system as well as any 18V LXT tools that use these batteries. The new adapter allows you to charge your 18V LXT batteries and your 40VXGT batteries using the same charger. You can still use your Makita old tools along with any new Makita purchase.

Additional Cordless Chainsaws You Might Like

If you’re in the market for a powerful cordless chainsaw but don’t have the money to spend on a Makita XCU04PT1 kit, there are lots of cheaper alternatives. WORX, EGO, and WORX are two brands that offer products that can withstand everyday use, but still have features like light weight, tensioning without the need for a tool, etc. Makita’s battery technology and quality are unbeatable. DeWalt is even closer. DeWalt’s 60V cordless chainsaw will be reviewed by me to compare with Makita’s XCU04Z.

We also have an EGO or WORX review for chainsaws. This is to show that these are affordable, homeowner-oriented alternatives of Makita/DeWalt’s high quality commercial products. The chainsaws you get are very durable and not as suitable for working on farms or job sites. But, again, it is a fraction more expensive so there aren’t many things to complain about.

Finally, I finally decided to get a Craftsman 16in brushless chainsaw. Craftsman is well-known for making gas saws. This is a strange one. For homeowners looking for a simple, reliable machine to cut wood or for a quick job at the yard, they make affordable saws that are easy to use. The question is, though: Are these cordless electric-chainsaws worth it? You can trust me to make the right decision.

Doubling Down On Outdoor Tools Part 2 – The Makita Lxt 18V X2 Chainsaw

Tree trimming and tree cleanup are made easier by electric chainsaws. You don’t have to worry about the gas tank leaking or yanking at the pullcord. They are not always very sturdy. Makita’s LXT18VX2 saw is a powerful little beast. This new Makita chainsaw has all the features you need and feels just like a quality power tool. Recently, I reviewed the Makita LXT18VX2 string trimmer. This Japanese power tool firm is something I really like. Their outdoor power equipment exhibits the same quality as their cordless pro-grade power tools. And, they continue to support their extremely successful 18-volt platform. This shows that their company has a deeper understanding of and respect for its customers.

It is much more convenient to use two 18V lithium ion power pack as their other tools than to design one large battery. Plus it saves you from potentially buying new batteries and new chargers.

Makita Cordless Chainsaw LXT18VX2 is unboxed. The Makita LXT18VX2 Makita chainsaw arrived partially disassembled. No tools are necessary for assembly. It takes only a few minutes to attach the chain and bar. The chain cover comes off without the use of a wrench, thanks to a little fold-out crank handle that tightens the single large nut that holds it on. The chain tightens with a little thumb wheel, rather than a screwdriver. All the parts of the bar mounting are steel, and well-machined. This contrasts with some companies which make the tightening mechanism out of aluminum. Like I said before, this saw feels like quality, right out of the box.

Even though the saw can be operated by electric, it doesn’t eliminate the need for oil. The tiny oil reservoir can be found conveniently and does not leak when the saw is on the shelf. It is obvious that this is a positive.

It gives the saw an excellent balance with saddle-bag batteries.

Similar to other chainsaws the saw has a lever-chain brake. This means that the saw cannot be operated until it’s clicked back. Although the design is akin to a belt with suspenders and an electricsaw, it offers an extra layer of safety. The latest Makita cordless saws have a traditional rear handle, which is a welcome change from the earlier models that featured a top-handle design. This was criticized by some. However, the saw is less than 12 lbs.

No wrenches or screwdrivers required. Nice!

Latest Update: November 5, 2019,

We received some constructive comments pertaining to our review of the Makita cordless chainsaw. In the above video, you will notice the chainsaw struggling to cut through the log. Also there’s some smoke.

Turns out the problem was caused by the bluntness of my chain and that it needed to be sharpened. This was done with our chainsaw sharpening instrument.

This worked well and the chainsaw continues to work flawlessly. I appreciate the feedback.

After living in the same city most of our lives, moving to the country has required us to acquire new skills and learn new things.

Our chainsaw was purchased by a guy from the shop. He told us to make sure it is sharpened every other year. The possibility that the chain might be too short was not something we thought of. That is why the chain wasn’t able to reach the smoking logs.

It’s clear that we have learned something, so hopefully the post and video provide insight for any new users of chainsaws.

For reference, this Stihl brand chainsaw-sharpener helped us to fix our saw and get it cutting correctly again.
