Photos And Video

The camera, which uses a 1/2″ CMOS Quad Bayer sensor, is mounted on a 3-axis stabilized gimbal. Raw images and JPEG images are possible (at 12MP or 48MP resolution), along with Raw + JPEG. Apart from standard movement, tilting upwards can be achieved up to 24o

Air 2 boasts a 24-mm equivalent lens. Fixed-aperture F2.8 lenses with an 84o FOV. DJI’s Fly More package includes three neutral-density filters. The filters appear to act in the same way as those on the Mavic 2 Pro. (Our review unit didn’t include filters so we were unable to test them).

DJI added SmartPhoto modes to its portfolio, which are similar in nature to other smartphones’ computational photography tools, to help improve the quality of photos. You can find them here:

HDR photos are 7 separate exposures that the camera automatically takes and merges to give you a greater dynamic picture.

Hyperlight: Low-light images, particularly on DJI drones tend to have grainy, or even noise. Hyperlight merges multiple images to create a better image.

Scene recognition: The drone can recognize five main components in a photograph – blue sky, sunsets, snow, grass and trees. It can analyze and enhance tone, clarity, colors, and contrast.

SmartPhotos can be captured at 12MP resolution. One thing that I noticed was that the 48MP images were darker than Single and SmartPhotos. HDR photographs were possible using the HDR feature. I found that they worked well for photographing sunsets.

The Odds and Ends

Mavic Air 2 has obstacle avoidance sensors at the rear, front and bottom. No sensors are located on the top. The bottom of the device houses an auxiliary light that has additional sensors and can be activated via the controller to aid with landing in difficult conditions like low-light areas.

DJI claims a maximum 34 minutes of flight time for the Mavic Air 2, a significant increase from the 21-minute life expectancy of the original Air model, though this figure is derived from flying in ideal conditions; DJI states that 33 minutes is more likely when performing a typical flight. I flew in moderate winds and found the figure to be closer to 30 – 31 minutes, on par with the Mavic 2 series.

There are two additional lights at the bottom of drone: an obstacle avoidance light and one that illuminates.

The battery portal contains a slot for microSD cards that supports up to 228GB. 8GB of internal storage is provided as backup should the memory card become full (or if you forget to bring a card along). The micro USB portal is located on the other side of your card slot. You can access photos and video taken internally. The Mavic Air 2 includes two cables to connect to your laptop.

DJI’s Geo System is included on this model, which stops drones from flying into prohibited areas such as airports. For those unfamiliar with drone laws, this feature will come in handy. Geo zones, as well as ADS-B, can be deactivated in the Fly app.

Dji Mavic Air 2 Review

Seth Weintraub praised the value of the device in his review.

Mavic Air 2 is my recommendation if you want a drone that costs between $500 and $1,000,000. With its 4K60 capability, 48MP sensor and 4K60 support, it is undoubtedly the best drone at this price. Also, the drone has a 34-minute flight duration and a 10km OcuSync2.0 range. Take a look below at the DJI matrix.

You can find more video clips and comparisons in the full review.

DJI increased flight time while increasing the weight. Mavic Air 2 weighs in at 570 grams (or 1.26 pounds). The Mavic Air 2, at 570 grams (1.26 pounds), is one-third more heavy than the Mavic Air.

The drone did not slow down due to the extra weight. The Mavic 2 has 72 kph, but it still travels at 68.4 kilometers an hour (or 42.5 miles per hour).

The DJI Mavic Air 2 can shoot in 4K at 60 frames per second. Other DJI consumer models are slower than the 120 Mbps bitrate. The camera is also capable of recording video at up to 100 Mbps. It can also record slow-motion 1080p video at 120 or 240 frames per second.

SmartPhoto: Pilots can choose this new feature, and using advanced scene recognition technology, Mavic Air 2 will optimize the camera settings and automatically choose one of three modes to apply. General scene recognition (including grass, trees, sunsets, snow) or HyperLight for low-light scenes where the camera takes several images of varying exposure and merges them for a high-quality image with low noise or an HDR image. SmartPhoto cannot use the 48MP option.

Review

Flying the DJI Mavic Air 2 is a treat and has everything a drone needs: fast speed, high-res camera, long battery life, tremendous range and obstacle avoidance. You can get it for $799.

I’m satisfied. This is something that I rarely say about gadgets when reviewing them. This product lacks very little. Although it’s not perfect, the drone’s avoidance system sometimes has difficulty detecting obstacles. Despite this, I still recommend the drone. DJI Mavic Air 2 remains the best consumer drone.

Video of an amazing kayaking trip with the Mavic Air 2 following our boats around rapids and around rivers would have been great. But I’m writing this review during the COVID-19 lockdown, so the best I can do is videos of my golden retriever, Nova, chewing on a stick, and me mowing my yard.

It’s fast and capable of hitting 40 mph. It has a great range. I was able stream video almost from the top of the atmosphere. You can really add drama to any video with the automated flight paths. Select a person/lawn tractor to guide the drone. It will even fly around on its own if necessary.

The crash

The Mavic Air 2 is a wonderful aircraft, even though it was involved in an automated video. Twice.

This is the deal. TechCrunch knows me best as the man who crashes drones. Because I test them frequently during review, I think that’s why they are so popular. Maybe it’s just me being a terrible pilot. Due to my crash into the birdhouse with the DJI Mavic, we had to wait a while before I could get a good shot of it. The replacements were shipped from China. Mavic Air 2 was unable to find the birdhouse. However, it found a tree and its landing leg broke in half after hitting the ground. Later on, as the drone was recording me riding the mower, it became stuck in a tree because it didn’t sense a huge tree limb.

Dji Mavic Air2 Review: Dji Mavic Dronelife Gives It Their Take

DJI Mavic Air 2, the drone that strikes that ideal balance between price and function? Before you purchase, read our reviews!

Kelly Shores is the drone expert behind Ready Set Drone on YouTube.

DJI increased the number of its affordable products and widened its market reach with the Mavic Mini’s release in late 2019. It performs well for its price, but lacks the advanced features that would be desirable to a professional user. The Mavic Mini is a premium toy, designed almost exclusively to be used for social media.

DJI has announced the Mavic Air 2 a year later, to close the gap between Mavic Mini’s higher end drones and it. The Mavic Air 2 is an even more capable drone camera that won’t break the budget.

Mavic Air 2 bridges that gap between “just need to fly for fun” drone owners and “hardcore drone hobbyists”. With a price point of $799 USD, it is roughly twice the cost of a Mavic Mini, yet still well below the cost of DJI’s flagship Mavic 2 Pro and Phantom 4 Pro series. The question is, what are you getting for the mid-range price tag? The first is the amazing camera performance. The Mavic Air 2 has a half inch image sensor that can record 4K video (as opposed to the 2.7K video of the Mavic Mini) at 60 frames per second. The Mavic Air 2 can record smooth 4K footage and slow-motion in 4K. A feature traditionally reserved for more expensive drones. The Mavic Air 2 also has a longer flight time, at around 30 minutes of flight under real world conditions. It has obstacle avoidance in the front, rear and bottom, which gives peace of mind to beginner pilots. OcuSync 2.0 is DJI’s exclusive video transmission technology that ensures clear images from your drone to the remote control. The drone offers more options for video and photography than many people would ever use.

DJI’s flight software has proven to be a great tool for capturing amazing still and video images on the Mavic Air 2. It has been updated with each new DJI consumer drone. Quickshots is a feature that’s very simple to use and produces amazing results. Quickshots is a very accurate name. They are fast and simple to use, but offer pre-programmed moves for your camera that you would find difficult. You can find many options and have fun with the names “helix” & “asteroid”, so it’s easy for you to try all. The Mavic Air 2 also has intelligent tracking modes that allow the drone to autonomously follow a person, vehicle or point of interest perfectly while moving through space to change perspective. The result is cinematic footage that looks like it’s straight out of Hollywood! The Mavic Air 2 also does “hyperlapse” video, which is a motion time lapse that greatly speeds up moving objects like clouds, cars and other things traveling through the scene across a linear path. Hyperlapse on the Mavic Air 2 doesn’t work as smoothly as it does on other drones. Expectations should be low. DJI’s Mavic 2 has a high-dynamic range, 48 megapixel still pictures and a pilot aid feature called APAS. This drone is very easy to learn and takes some time to master.

Although the Mavic Air 2 is compact enough to be carried around, its weight of over 250g means that it must still be registered with aviation authorities. In the United States you can visit https://www.faa.gov/ua to learn more. If you reside outside of the US, please check your local drone laws.

You can buy it now

B&H Adorama WEX offers the DJI Mavic Air 2 for a reasonable price. You can also get my In Camera Book and treat yourself to a cup of coffee.

DJI Mavic Air2 Review Adam Juniper DJI’s Mavic Air2 is shaking up DJI customers. Before now, the Mavic Air is the standout of the entire range. The top of the line Mavic 2 Pro (dark grey) and the ultralight Mavic Mini (light grey) shared a lot of the same design cues while the Mavic Air, well, it looked awesome! It was even available in red!

Looks can be deceiving though; the Mavic Air 1 (as it shall henceforth be known) suffered from disappointing battery life and a genuinely worrying range. The 4K price tag was amazing for this model. But it became clear that in reality, the flight time of 21 minutes was just 15 minutes. And if your pilot was to fly even 100m, you could experience your Wi-Fi connection cut off.

Two years on, the Air 1 looks like poor value compared to the Mavic Mini. Sure, it has 4K, but the Mini’s 2.7K is more than good enough for most purposes and the longer flight time is hugely beneficial. The Mini also has some of the cool QuickShots that the Air 1 sported, so the content creator’s ambitions can be fulfiled for less. If you’re looking for something a bit more sporty, the PowerEgg X might draw your attention, with similar pricing, 60fps 4K video and the option to fly in rain and land on water.

What does the Mavic Air 2 bring to the party?

At first glance, conformity! Air 2 looks about half the size and weight of Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic Mini. It also has a lighter grey color. A look at the spec sheet suggests the Air 2 is closer to its senior sibling, though, with a new half-inch image sensor capable of 48-megapixel shots. There’s a Sony IMX586 quad-bayer sensor, which might make it appear as 12-megapixels. The 60fps rate after 4K is, however, the number that most drone owners love. This is 4K at 60fps. It drops to 30fps when you use HDR or the subject-tracking features.

Mavic is in the middle. Although the new Mavic Air 2 is a middle-of-the-road model in terms of size and price, some features make it stand out.

Is the Mavic Air 2 worth it?

You have many reasons to choose the DJI Mavic Air 2! At launch, it hit the market as the best drone for the money that you can buy, with the balance of a great camera and solid flight features for the price. You should buy the Mavic Air 2 as soon as you are able to.

Is Mavic Air 2 Good For Beginners?

The Mavic Air 2 is an incredibly versatile piece of hardware that’s perfect for beginners just getting into a new drone hobby and for more advanced Dronies (I just made that word up) looking for an all-around good product.Sep 30, 2020

Are The Mavic Air2’s Photos Good?

You’ll be able to shoot 4K video at 60 frames/second. You can take the drone’s photo and video quality to the next level by adding a variety of auto functions and intelligent in-flight features.
