Mullvad offers one price and breaks away from its competitors. No pricing tiers or upsells are available and there is no option to get a free version. Only one cost is charged: EUR5 per monthly, or $5.95 as of the writing. The Mullvad account is available to be paid with your major credit cards. Pal, Swish, and at a 10% discount bitcoin.

Mullvad allows you to pay by bank wire transfer, or money mailed directly from the office in Sweden. Cash transactions are not anonymous but the company says that wire transfers can help trace your Mullvad VPN accounts directly.

IVPN offers similar options that are rare in the industry.

That EUR5 fee is significantly less than the average monthly price of the VPNs we’ve reviewed, which currently sits at $9.96 per month. Only a few for-pay VPNs, such as Kaspersky Secure Connection, are cheaper. Although some VPN services can be more expensive than others, or significantly higher than Mullvad on average, many are still worth it. However they compensate for that difference by offering great user experiences and extra features.

Surfshark’s Editors’ Choice winner Nord. VPN enables you to protect your privacy and is available at a low $11.95/month.

It’s not expensive, but the IPVanish VPN Review of Mullvad shows that it is worth looking at. A few VPNs are free to try. Some work well, others less so. Editors’ Choice winner Tunnel. Bear’s monthly subscription is limited to 500MB, while Hotspot Shield increases the limit to 500MB daily. Proton, Editors Choice winner. VPN has no data limitations and can be used for all purposes.

Excepting Mullvad, which has neither pricing deals nor tiers, most VPNs offer long-term subscriptions for a substantial discount. For all our services, it works out to $73.02 per annual, on average. Mullvad, despite being a short-term service, costs less at around $71.38 over the course a year.

In any case, we recommend readers avoid long-term subscriptions at least at first. Instead, consider using a free or short-term subscription to test a service in your home environment before you make a longer commitment.

Mullvad has servers in 36 countries across the globe. That’s a decent offering, but it’s far below the average of 52 countries we’ve seen among competitors. Mullvad also doesn’t have enormous diversity among its server offerings, with only one country in South America and no coverage in all of Africa a continent often ignored by VPN companies.

It is advantageous to have a large number of servers, as it allows customers to spoof their location and increases the chances of finding a local VPN server.

Express. VPN is the best VPN we reviewed. It offers servers in 94 different countries.

Mullvad maintains 764 servers worldwide. This number is not the only VPN company that Mullvad has. Nord. VPN has about 5,500, while Cyber. Ghost, which has 6,800 servers, boasts the greatest collection. While a bigger fleet may not always mean better performance but more servers gives you the opportunity to find one that is right for your needs.

One hardware server may host many virtual servers that are software-defined. A virtual address is an instance of a server configured to appear at a location other than its actual physical location. While both are extremely useful, we recommend that businesses clearly disclose where their virtual servers are located. Mullvad doesn’t have this problem. A representative of the company told me they only use dedicated servers located exactly where it says they are.

This is a great start. But Mullvad takes it a step further by letting you know where your data is. Its server lists show the country, city and company that runs the data centers. They also tell you whether Mullvad leases them or owns them. This level of transparency is rare among VPN providers.

Some VPN firms have adopted diskless servers which don’t store any information. Mullvad claims that the company does not have any information and instead is working towards a wider infrastructure transparency project. A VPN can allow you to access all your internet traffic. To ensure customer privacy, all of our reviews include a conversation with Mullvad VPN. We also examine the privacy policy. Unfortunately, Mullvad VPN is not able to prove anything. However, this does not mean that it can be trusted as a reliable VPN. You don’t have to trust any VPN. There are many alternatives.

Mullvad has a relatively small presence in the VPN world. Yet, Mullvad has earned the respect of VPN users who value privacy. Is Mullvad performing well when the review was conducted?

Mullvad is an emerging player in the market for consumer VPNs. The privacy-minded have embraced Mullvad as one of the best VPN providers on the market today. With a simple pricing structure, it offers strong features that combine security with convenience.

But is Mullvad better than the big-name providers? It can it rival larger providers such as Nord. VPN Express. VPN PIA. I am going to evaluate Mullvad’s VPN service. In doing so, I will also answer these questions:

Mullvad can work with streaming sites like Netflix or BBC i. Player, and Amazon Prime Video

Mullvad’s desktop app (mac. OS is intuitive and well-designed. It is easy to set up and use a VPN client, no matter how new or old. However, there are some settings that can prove intimidating, like the Advanced menu. We’ll discuss this in detail in the Security section.

Let’s have a look at the client app.

The first launch will show you a login page. This is where you enter your account number.

The app’s main page displays minimal but useful information on the state of your connection. The main page lists the name of each city that you are connected to, and shows it on a Google map. It displays information such as your IP address (In), the current public IP (Out), as well as the name of any server to which you’re connecting. You also have a button to switch locations, another one to disconnect, and at the top right, you have a gear menu, which takes you to the app’s settings.

Switch locations displays a list of all countries. Clicking a country will allow you to drill down into the cities available.

The Preferences section allows you to choose whether your app will launch or auto-connect when it starts. It is possible to enable or disable network sharing. This allows you to allow or block access to your Mullvad-based LAN network. These settings are fairly self-explanatory.

Not as advanced as the best VPNs

Accessing geo-blocked content is difficult

Mullvad, a privacy-focused VPN based in Sweden is well-known. Mullvad connects you through 663 global servers. Unlike other VPNs, where they make all the pretenses of anonymity to their users, Mullvad doesn’t require any personal information.

We will be looking at the Mullvad provider to find out what it does differently, how true its claims that users remain anonymous, and if this is a VPN worth considering as your first line for online defense.

It is still beta and doesn’t have all the features that Mullvad VPN reviewed. However, it still supports local network sharing as well as setting the Wire. Guard MTU value, but you can’t use IPv6 communication and there is no Kill Switch.

Mullvad Android also offers Split Tunneling. Unfortunately, this feature is only available for Windows users.

But, it was disappointing to find that Wire wasn’t available. Guard was the only protocol that was offered.

Mullvad’s desktop software for Windows and Mac is available in both Wire and Linux. Protect and Open. VPN.

You can also set up notifications to alert you when new Mullvad VPN versions are released.

Another provider might be a better choice for you if that is your only purpose of using VPN.

Mullvad was blocked by Netflix in both Japan and America. I tried it on Netflix. VPN worked just fine. I had the same problem when trying to access BBC i. Player and DAZN US. Is it possible that some services are simply blocking Mullvad VPN?

My experiences are consistent with numerous reviews. Unfortunately, it does not seem that Mullvad has set out to find a way to fix geo-blocking.

However, there’s at least some light at the end of the tunnel because Mullvad helped me watch geo-restricted content on Youtube.
