The Overview and the Pricing

Ooma Office tried to increase their appeal beyond small businesses in the latest round of testing. They remain a viable option for the small and medium business (SMB) market. Important aspect to this is that when you purchase a Ooma phone and plug it into your computer, it will work. But you must have the pre-configured phone by Ooma in order for it to work. While Ooma recommends that customers get their phones from Ooma rather than other Vo, they do offer a service for using Vo. IP phones can be used if that is what you prefer. We chose the optimal experience route and received a Yealink T48S from Ooma, which is a full-featured handset that, as promised, simply worked the first time we powered it up.

Ooma Office was not as feature-rich as other Ooma Office products. Although the Pad Microsoft Windows 10 client can make and receive phone calls as well as listen to voicemail, it is quite basic. Ooma has a growing feature-set, much like any tech company. Ooma Office, which we reviewed here, has enabled SMS messaging. It also offers capabilities such as Meetings video conferencing, although we were not able to try it during this review.

Ooma Basic starts at $19.95 per user per monthly with no contract. Ooma Pro is the next-level service and costs $24.95/user per month. Ooma Enterprise comes at $24.99 per monthly per user. This adds instant messaging, presence, video conferencing, integration with applications, service level agreements, and the Office Pro option. Fully PCI compliant, full call center functionality is $74.99 per month.

User Experience

Ooma Office offers basic calling as its main focus. You can make a phone call either from your desktop or via the mobile app. Your personal contact list is available on your smartphone. The desktop contacts do not sync with other systems such as 8×8, Dialpad and Vonage Business Cloud. The release of this feature is expected to occur in the early part of next year.

Ooma is compatible with calling over WiFi. A Wi-Fi adapter was provided by the company for the phone we tried. This is a feature that should appeal to small businesses with heavy dependence on Wi Fi, but also home offices. Many of these homes are being built due to the epidemic. Ooma also allowed us to use our existing analog handsets. It requires an analog adapter that connects to your analog phone and an Ooma Base Station. There is no limitation on the number base stations that you can operate since the last review. The Ooma Phone Business Starter Pack comes with a single Ooma Office base station plus two wireless extensions for $129.97.

One noteworthy feature of Ooma Office is the DECT 6.0 wireless radio built into the Ooma Base Station. The company offers a package with two Ooma Linx devices that have analog standard RJ-11 ports or you can buy the base station without Linx if you have no plans to use them. By plugging the Ooma Linx peripherals into any power outlet, customers can connect one analog phone or even cordless phone systems that support multiple phones connecting to that line.

This is a great phone for small businesses who only need a telephone.

Ooma has served us well for years. Ooma was a great option because we work remotely and communicate via email with our customers. It was easy to set up and almost maintenance-free. Our customers are located in Canada as well as the USA. This service permits calls from both countries and charges no per-minute fees for Canada. Virtual assistant can answer your calls even if there isn’t anyone to. This was easy to set-up and has been working well for most of our customers. You can create your own recording to answer the calls as well as use the automated voice service.

While it was easy to set up, we have had a few connectivity issues. Some issues are not preventable. However, you can get a Vo. IP phone service you need internet, and if that goes out there is a problem. But there have been a few times where the Ooma server was down and we weren’t notified. Also there is a function that allows you to have automated withdrawals to pay for account overages. Sometimes this service would not be working and they would cancel our conference bridge subscription without notice. Although the conference bridge service has been around for a while, it’s mostly reliable. However, this billing/funding defect is what makes it most difficult.

Ooma office is great and would recommend to any small business. The price is very affordable and we have seen great results so far. Ooma is a product that our company uses for several years. We have also recommended it to some of our clients.

Ooma is a web-based service that allows users to quickly forward calls and send out faxes to their cellphone. This online system is easy to use and have never encountered any problems. Any questions or issues we may have, customer service responds quickly. They can usually resolve problems over the telephone in just a few minutes.

A downside to this is the frequent downtime of office phones. The line will not connect to any signal, and it has been reported 3-4 times. Customer support was required to restart the line. This was an ongoing issue for one phone line. Ooma responded very quickly.
