Ping G Sf Tec Driver Review

Ping is also releasing a Straight Flight, or SF, version of the G Driver. You can choose between 10deg or 12-deg models. To create an extra draw bias, this club has a weight slightly towards the side of the foot to help straighten your fades.

Club turnover will be easier with the D1 swingweight, which is 2 points lighter than its standard counterpart.

It was visually just as great at address, and that’s the beauty of SF. Without the need for offset, it creates the draw effect.

The 10deg loft was slightly higher than the 10.5deg version of Trackman’s standard trackman.

It was more precise for me with tighter shots dispersed in the middle to left and not the center to right. Ping claims it adds approximately 12 yards to the left of your shots, which I believe is about right.

When I reviewed the G30 driver, I mentioned that the SF TEC was my favorite because it was much easier to hit. This is not the place for high handicappers, or those who are slashers. It is open to anyone who can’t hook it, regardless of their ability. Go for a fitting and find out if this fits you. It will work if it does. If not, just put it in your bag.

After the success of the G30 driver PING, they wanted to add more aerodynamics to their latest model, the PING G driver. I went for a drive and saw how it performed.

Nature often inspires great design. It is evolution that often provides the simplest and most beautiful solution to many problems. When PING engineers set out to improve the G30 driver, one of the most popular on the market they turned to nature. Engineers who designed the PING G driver used nature as inspiration and improved their designs. In fact, they looked at wings from a dragonfly.

The turbulators, which were attached to the tops of the clubhead of the G30, are a key feature of this highly-popular model. PING engineers saw the dragonfly and designed the clubhead to enhance the airflow. More speed to help you hit it farther. This is because larger clubheads, particularly those of 460cc, do not require to compromise aerodynamics. PING created a driver which had the aerodynamic qualities of a 3-wood but has the driver’s forgiveness and power.

This review was conducted using a PING G 9deg driver and an Alta shaft. Let’s take a look at how technology combined with nature made me successful. Technology. I have to confess that when PING first announced the G30 in 2013, I was very skeptical about the longevity of the Turbulators. Although the G30 was an extremely successful product, you can’t deny its popularity. I think at least half the regular guys own one. Looking to improve on this new technology PING engineers have further improved the Turbulator technology by introducing their new “Dragonfly technology.” The design inspired by a dragonfly’s wings further improves the aerodynamics of the clubhead to increase speed from the reduced drag by as much as 37% through the impact zone. That improvement translates to sizable distance gains from all swing speeds.

Dragonfly technology also gives an engineer the ability to transfer weight from one place to another on the driver. If a club design has the ability to shift weight, it can improve or even affect the distribution of the golfer’s weight. In this case the CG is in a better position (low/back) to provide higher launch and lower spin and to add more forgiveness for the golfer. It is the most CG-dense driver PING has ever produced. For maximum forgiveness, this raises the MOI significantly for both the axes.

It all comes together when the new design and the PING Vortec Velocity tech are combined. Vortec Velocity helps reduce the turbulent wake from the downswing and increase clubhead and ball speeds. You can also get forgiveness by improving stability. Vortec Technology adds another dimension to the G30 driver.

Review: Ping’S Drivers G400 and L400

I still remember the first time I hit Ping’s G30 driver. This was July 2014. It was Phoenix, Arizona. These super low-spin players were the new rage. Their forward center, or centre of gravity, helped golfers maximize their launch conditions. One of these drivers was my colleague and I had many launch monitor sessions with him to help us get the most distance possible from our high-knuckleballs. Bad news: Forward-CG drivers are by design very difficult to control. Bad shots were really short and crooked.

Marty Jertson was Ping’s Director, Product Development. He shared his vision about the perfect driver with me inside a meeting room at Ping headquarters. The ideal driver did not have a low forward center of gravity. Its CG was located as low and as rearward in the driver head as possible, which he said would offer the best of both worlds: optimized launch conditions on good shots, as well as the best possible forgiveness on bad shots.

The perfect driver wasn’t something Jertson could have imagined. The driver proved to be a strong testament to Ping’s vision when it was first released. The G30’s rear-CG design allowed for great distance in both good and poor shots. It was also very straight. G30 sales were phenomenal and the market shifted to forward-CG drivers.

Ping’s latest driver release is a surprise. It has already been three years since G30 first appeared. The company shrunk the size of its new G400 drivers in a climate where full-size drivers have become the norm. It’s not much smaller than the G300, at 15 cubic centimeters, but still noticeable when you get to your destination. It looks like the G400s are cutting carbs when compared with the Ping G-drivers they replace.

Despite their slimmer frames, however, the G400 drivers are actually more forgiving than the G drivers (which were even more forgiving than the G30). Ping representative say that the G400 drivers are smaller than their G30 counterparts. Ping’s G400 drivers boast the lowest and most backwardly positioned CGs of all Ping drivers. They are also smaller than other drivers so that golfers can hit them fractionally more quickly. A new face material, made from T9S+ Titanium, is another big improvement. It is lighter and flexible to allow golfers more ball speed.

The G400 LST was my choice, but I also wanted to see how they compare to the G LST drivers. To do this, I drove them to Launch Pad Carl’s Golfland near Bloomfield Hills. I hit five shots with each driver on Trackman IV, and to ensure as much of an apples-to-apples comparison as possible, I tested each driver head with the same shaft. I adjusted each driver’s heads to the same loft as possible.

Notice: G LST drivers, G400 and G LST were each 10.5-degree heads, which was adjusted to 9.5. G400 LST’s loft was 10 degrees. This level was adjusted to 9.4°.
