Hybrids are those clubs that we don’t necessarily need in our bags the way we need our putters, drivers and irons, but life sure gets a lot easier with a good hybrid you can trust. Hybrids vary in their shape and design more than just about any other clubs on the market. There are hybrids made to look and feel like smaller fairway woods. Some hybrids have a more traditional design while some hybrids are ironier. PING has a range of hybrids that seem to meet all needs. PING recently sent the G25 to THP – Let’s find out more.

You can have a variety of hybrids with PING. The G20 and I20 were both solid hybrids in their own rights, yet to me they had more of a driving iron look and feel to them. These hybrids are not for me. PING had the G25 available for me to examine and I was happy to find that PING took some liberties with their latest hybrid offering.

PING introduced the PING matte-black finish to the G25. The driver selections have also been updated. While we live in an age where glossier and brighter colors seem to be more common, PING stands out with their matte black finish. It is stealthy and screams serious. If you desire it, gloss can be found in the sole of PING’s club. However, when combined with matte black, this creates an amazing looking hybrid.

PING’s G25 hybrid has more soft edges, a flatter face and gives the G25 a miniature fairway wood feel. I like this a lot and I suspect many golfers will tend to agree with me. The look and shape of the G25 immediately provided me that confidence I need at address. When you see the G25, it feels natural to place your hand behind the ball. You know that a good shot is on its way.

PING Technical Information Progressive CG Locations Ball Flight is engineered using progressive CG locations. Lower-lofted hybrids are lighter and have more spin. In the mid and higher lofts, the CG moves forward to minimize spin and keep the ball from ballooning.

A Forgiving Face With the low heel and toe sections, this profile is sure to be a success. It also has the ability to provide a large hitting surface for shots that are struck lower than usual.

With game enhancer forgiveness, you can achieve a better look as a player. The game improver forgiveness is a minimal offset that’s responsive to the face and easy to form.

Launched quite low for some of the testers. Higher swing speeds didn’t get the distance gains of others.

RRP PS170.00. In the Hybrids Test 2014 the Ping G25 received a Silver award on top of its Bronze award 2013. Click here to see our 2014 Test review.

2013 Hybrids test The matt black finish proved to be popular. James could not have chosen to associate the G25’s lack of offset, given how much the range is targeted at the game improvementr. Its head shape was compact, and it seemed like a more player-friendly club. He loved the two-tone design on the head separating the front of the crown from the rest and found it sat very easily behind the ball, was easy to align due to the grooves and impressive overall.

Matt noticed how straightforward it appeared to hit thanks to the design of the product and the position at which it was sat. You could tell it was a top-quality product. The forgiveness levels were high. Antony was attracted to the low profile which allowed him to easily execute shots of the tight lie. While he wasn’t too happy about the lack alignment aid, he enjoyed everything else. This was James’ straightest hybrid on test scoring maximum marks for dispersion. Antony’s second longest, it scored 9/10 in dispersion. Matt’s test result showed that it was his longest, straightest hybrid. Deserving winner.

The Takeaway

Above: Compare the matte finish on Ping’s new G25 fairwaywood (left) to last year’s gloss finish (right).

With the G25 fairway woods and hybrids, Ping looks to have found a way to add forgiveness to the hardest-to-hit clubs in the bag.

Others have had difficulty providing hybrids or woods to improve game feel, power, and playability. This should give low handicap golfers confidence to play the G25.

Ping currently offers three distinct fairway-wood and hybrid lineups, the G25 included, for players with the highest yardage requirements. G25 hybrids are priced at a moderate price and will attract most mid-handicap to high-handicap players. With a good fitting, you can use G25 fairway and hybrid woods and hybrids for any level of golfer.

The Ping i25 is the best hybrid looking car. No crazy colors, no extreme logos, and no strange shapes. It’s a beautiful matte black head with a black face, and polished black sole that makes it very easy on the eyes when you’re standing over your shot. I believe our own Andrew Jesernig referred to the G25 fairway woods as “sexy” in his review , and now I know exactly what he’s talking about. Ping produces some beautiful and stylish hybrids.
