Performance
I was fit for my 0811 XF Gen2 driver at PXG Chicago . The head that I chose was the one I had in mind. I believe in maximum forgiveness of the tee, so the settings and shaft were important. As we worked through different shafts, the main thing that stood out to me was how robust the spin numbers were. Some shafts were able to keep me in the centre of the face. Others had me wandering all around the area. Regardless of shaft, the 0811 XF Gen2 kept a similar low/mid spin profile shot after shot.
In the same way, both ball speed as well launch proved to be very stable. Although mishits can always lead to a loss in ball speed, my 0811 XF Generation2 kept me at 150 MPH for all but the worst of my swings.
After extensive testing, we decided on the Fujikura Speeder Evolution IV. It was no surprise to me that this shaft helped me find the centre of the face the most often. The set has a very stealthy feel, thanks to the black shaft.
It was the exact same results I experienced in my fitting studio. The high launching, low spinning drives carried forever. With the weights and hosel set neutral, the Speeder Evo IV kept my drives away from the left side, which is my preference. It was easy to switch between straight shots or cuts.
The 0811 XF Gen2 has much less weight adjustment than its brother. The XF has five weight ports, all along the back edge. This contrasts to the 0811X, which only has five ports. By sacrificing weight ports, you can gain more forgiveness. The difference isn’t huge, but it’s noticeable on a launch monitor. This is an acceptable trade since both drivers have 1.5 degrees adjustability at their hosel.

PXG has made a huge impact on the golf market ever since it was launched. Their unique marketing strategy, innovative technologies and higher pricing have all caused a stir in the industry. PXG’s irons changed the game. They offered forgiveness, feel and power unlike any other irons. However, the woods that they started with were not great. It’s not great. PXG prices are a lot more expensive than the original 0811. You demand exceptional performance. While the original 0811 driver had spin, the PXG0811x driver has a narrow sweet spot that allows you to extract the best from the driver. Fairway woods and hybrids have been stronger performers, but the new 0811X Gen 2 woods will be a game-changer for the Arizona based brand. This woods are outstanding not just for their performance but because they’re so affordable. Its RRP of PS550 puts the club back into the mix. Still the most expensive mainstream driver, it’s now only a fraction more expensive than the latest Callaway and TaylorMade drivers making it a strong contender.
What is it that makes The Pxg0811XGen 2 stand out among the crowd?
We review the PXG0811xGen 2 driver to see what sets it apart. Every head has a Variable Face Technology which can increase the ball speed for missed hits. It is lightweight and can fine tune the sound and feel of the clubhead without adding any weight. The line includes two drivers. O811x, a low-spin design, is the O811xF. The 0811XF has extra forgiveness. Also, there is a matching set of fairway woods or hybrids. PXG0811x Gen 2’s review revealed that the face is deeper and slightly squatter. The X’s weight forward design allows for low spin, ball speed, and is very lightweight. There are 9 interchangeable weights so shot shape and trajectory can really be influenced, with weight ports in the front and back of the head, plus towards the heel to add some draw bias.
The XF has a longer front and back. The XF has a heavier front end and is the most expensive overall MOI. This includes the 5900 R&A limit and an additional 10,000 MOI if you add the sole to crown MOI. Ping G400 Max has the best forgiveness but has a lower centre. Who wouldn’t love that combination of high forgiveness and low spin? Although hybrids use the same technology as fairways, they have a steel structure rather than using titanium. PXG hit the jackpot with their third hybrid. Although it’s a bit small on the fairway, its head hits easily. We believe that it is a fantastic combination of head size, shape, adjustability, ease-of-use, and adaptability.
Verdict
Having reviewed the PXG 0811x Gen 2 on two separate occasions now, I can confirm that it is a great driver. The feel and sound of the driver is fantastic, a little livelier than the previous PXG driver, but still quiet and powerful which is impressive. Furthermore, miss-hits feel comfortable and keep the ball moving at a high speed. The crown design is unique but not ugly, and it does help line up down the fairway. Personally, I’m not a fan of the X alignment, but I know other golfers will like it. PXG may offer the choice of not using an alignment aid. It’s something I would like to see. It does lower flight. I also found that the weights affected spin rates. It was difficult for me to miss the ball left so I did not try the heel setting. While this wasn’t the driver I was going to be with, it had ball speeds that were at the same level as the best and spun well. Although I didn’t end up with this driver, I was very close to it and would have made it my second choice. The leather headcover is a great finishing touch, and it’s these extras that make PXG stand out, even now when their prices don’t. The cost of a driver with PXG will not be considered if they are the best for you. That hurdle has now been removed from the equation.

Pxg on the Marketplace Now
PXG’s 0811 driver cost a lot more than it performed. They have now realised the market and the 0811 X GEN2 has emerged as a viable contender for the top releases of the year.
While I’m not saying it is wrong to spend $500+ on a driver, that is quite a significant amount of money. Writing reviews for driver releases is something I do. It’s a bad idea to blindly listen to marketing statements from all OEMs. You should first test the driver before you buy a new one. Clubfitting is something I have learned over the years. There are no perfect drivers for every golfer. The unique qualities of each golf club design will result in different outcomes, including the center-of gravity.

The 0811 X GEN2 can be a very powerful driver. Many players will enjoy increased ball speed, greater forgiveness, and more launch conditions. It won’t mean you are a beginner golfer. However, the 0811 X GEN2 can make a big difference.

Are you able to adjust Pxg drivers?
Yes. You can adjust the PXG Driver. You can adjust the hosel of the driver the same way as with the PXG Metal Woods. … Also, the PXG0211 can have its weight adjusted by 10 grams. The back weight can vary from as little as 2.5g up to as much as 20g.
