Galaxy A01 Camera Has Problems with Portrait Photos

Galaxy A01 takes bright, vivid photos with ample lighting. Red and green colors pop especially well in certain pictures. Some images were too dark and the sky ended up being blown to black. Later in the evening, I was able to take a good shot of the blue sky, with the foreground and subject matter evenly exposed as well. The camera has an 8X digital zoom that is decent at getting more details from faraway objects, but image quality does get muddier and washed out the closer you zoom.

Live Focus was inconsistent for portrait shots. Although some images turned out well, many others were blurred in the background or foreground, even though I checked that it was available. Samsung said they are looking into the issue, and I’ll update the review when I hear back.

It can capture 1080p video. Video quality is clear and sharp enough, but the phone doesn’t have optical image stabilization so footage won’t be super-smooth if you’re moving around a lot.

The flowers in this shot are vibrant, colorful and sharp.

This picture of a rose garden is good, but the sky is blown out.

You can see the sky and clouds in the image.

An example of the Live Focus feature not working (left) and working (right).

Good call quality despite slow lte speeds

Samsung has two Galaxy A01 versions in America: one that is sold by Verizon and the other for AT&T/T-Mobile. Each model has extensive support for the respective carrier bands. Cricket Wireless sent us our review unit to test on their network in Chicago.

You’ll absolutely need the microSD slot located on your left.

Snapdragon X6 modem is a slow, nimble device that has 64-QAM encoding and 2x10mHz carrier aggregation for the downlink. It’s a slow older modem that’s paired with part of the Snapdragon 439 chipset, and is unable to use carrier resources as efficiently as newer alternatives such as the Snapdragon X9 modem on the Motorola Moto e.

It is disappointing to see the data connections slow down. We were able to test data speeds of 3.2Mbps and 2.3Mbps respectively. This is slow even for Cricket and could cause audio and video buffering when there’s congestion.

The call quality is exceptional, however. The maximum volume on the earpiece at 86dB is sufficient to be audible in noisy streets. Our test calls were clear and noise cancellation worked well.

A letdown is the back-firing speaker. The volume peak is at 94dB. However, the speaker’s location causes muffled sound when the device lies on top of a table. Timbre is very brassy with high-pitched mids and little bass.

Bluetooth 4.2 and dual band Wi-Fi are both available on the board. However, there is no NFC. This phone is not the right phone if you plan to use it for transit passes and mobile payments.

Samsung Galaxy A01 Review

Samsung Galaxy A01PC Mag A $50 phone may seem basic but the Samsung Galaxy A01 outclasses other budget phones. Although it does have a bright display and great battery life, the phone struggles with most other areas. Its Snapdragon 439 processor slows down on even the most simple tasks. Additionally, there is little room to install apps once you have cleared out all the bloatware.

Review of the 68% Galaxy A01: A basic Android phone designed for budget-conscious consumers CNet. The Galaxy A01, a low-priced Android smartphone that comes with no frills, is one of the most affordable members of Samsung’s A series of budget phones. The $150 price tag is reasonable, but we’ve also seen the device on sale from Samsung for $100 unlocked. However, it’s not as exciting as some of its features. The phone is inexpensive enough to allow you to check emails, snap pictures, look at videos, and make calls.

Rating: Average score: 68%. Performance: 70%. Workmanship is 60%. 68%. CNet reviews the Galaxy A01. A low-priced Android handset for those on a budget. CNet says the Galaxy A01 is an affordable, basic phone from Samsung’s A series of budget phones. The phone is priced at $150, though we have seen it for sale as low as $100 from Samsung. Its basic hardware and other features — such as its simple design and low resolution display — are not much to be excited about. The phone covers all the essentials well enough so that it can be used to take photos, view videos and make calls.

The Samsung Galaxy A01 joins several other Tracfone devices, including Samsung smartphones such as the Galaxy A20. Follow all of our new smartphone releases in the List Of the Latest Tracfone Android Smartphones. However, the Galaxy A01 might be an option for customers who prefer a phone that can fit in a pocket, or into your hands, than the Galaxy A20.
