Performance
The ZX7 driver was very different from the ZX6. I read up about it before trying it. There were a lot of emphasises on “penetrating,” meaning low launch and spin. It also had a focus on “Tour shaping”. This made my expectations low for forgiveness. It was surprising to discover that even with imperfect swings, ball speed and distance were maintained by the combined effect of the large carbon crown and Rebound Frame.
Srixon’s low launch spin and launch was obvious from the first swing. If you’re looking to shave some RPM off your tee shots or launch more penetrating drives, the ZX7 should be near the top of your list for 2021. The ZX5 driver may be better for those who prefer a lower launch angle and a more consistent spin. The shaft suits the more aggressive, faster swinger and enhances the ZX7’s low spinning and lower launching.
The ZX7 driver is simple to use and has two adjustability options. The hosel allows you to adjust loft, lie angle and face angle. You can also adjust the weight of your toe and heel via the ports. For a neutral shot pattern, the stock configuration places an 8 gram toe weight and a 4 grams heel weight. To promote a draw, you can flip the weights. Srixon also offers more weights, including 4, 6, 8, 10, 10 and 12g. These weights can be purchased at $15 per gram. While the stock settings were perfect for me, I think the extra weights make it easy to dial in your swing weight, whether you have a longer or shorter driver build.

Srixon Came To Play And Win Over the last few years, it kind of feels like the driver race has been between a couple companies. Although there are more than 20 drivers available on the market today, only two or three companies seem to be dominating the buzz, sales, and bag of golfers. Srixon set out to be a contender for the big dog slot in your bag. First they needed to win over their tour pros, (which they did) and now they are going after the regular golfing market. It is possible that the new Z785 driver could be your next favorite player. Srixon makes bold statements about its driver on their website. Is it possible to prove this with actual world performance? You’ll learn more about Srixon as they take on all the competition. They claim to be faster than the Rogue and straighter than an M3. The bold statements they made on the website about Z785’s performance are not only impressive but also very exciting. Their head to head testing lead them to proclaim they have a driver that can become a leader in the industry. A new TI51AF Cup Face face and carbon composite crown is the technology that they are showcasing. They use lighter materials to allow better CG manipulation, and more energy transfer. Srixon Z785 driver is an excellent “off-the-rack” combination. The ProjectX HZRDUS Black Hand Crafted shaft is the real deal. The shaft is a great choice, and I’m already a fan. The basically all black package from head to grip is really nice looking. It’s very traditional with a little bit of chrome and red. The carbon was barely visible. It’s easy to see how your ball impacts after each drive with the black face. This bag looks amazing with the bright red headcover. If you judge by his appearance, it is no surprise that this driver has the potential to compete.
Srixon Z785 Driver was required to convince me on the course. Does it really do what it claims? Srixon might have pulled this off, I must admit. I am truly impressed by this driver. This driver is so smooth and easy to use. Srixon managed to dial in the multimaterial sound to be extremely pleasing. But not too muted to feel like it’s dead. This launch has a great impact crack that makes it feel really loud without feeling too hot. Launch was both strong and towering. Flat flight and quick launch were great for me. Drive after drive looked like “pro” drives. Professionals have a certain flight that is not always visible to amateurs. The usual golfer will either aim for a higher trajectory to get the most out of rolling or hit it spinny and high. Professionals hit the ball with a higher spin rate for incredible carry. This was what I observed with the Srixon Z785.
Srixon Z785 Driver offers a great combo of sound, looks and flight. What really makes the difference is length and dispersion. These two factors are crucial to driving success. Is it straight, long and forgiving? Yes the Srixon Z785 offers all of those features too. I hit numerous drives over 3 bills that were perfectly straight. Off-center hits didn’t get as far but they were definitely in play, and they were plenty long. The low spin on this driver really is the key to much of the distance and dispersion of this driver. While I could increase my swing speed a little, the combination was just right for me.
