Test The Surface Laptop Go: An Enough Core I5 CPU
Surface Laptop Go’s quad-core Core i5-1035G1 is part of Intel’s 10th Generation Ice Lake chip family. It was introduced in 2019 and has been used since then. This chip has now been replaced with the 11th Generation “Tiger Lake”, but it still offers plenty of performance. It runs at a low base clock speed of 1GHz to keep power consumption down, but can boost up to 3.8GHz when required. The laptop also has Hyper-Threading which allows each core to handle up to eight instruction threads simultaneously. See more on how we test laptops. The Core i5 has 8GB of RAM and Intel UHD Graphics. This Core i5 can handle almost all tasks without sluggishness. From web surfing with multiple tabs open, to the writing of part of this review using Microsoft Word. However, the Surface Laptop Go’s theoretical performance, as determined by benchmarks, is mediocre compared with its similarly priced counterparts. While it’s somewhat faster than Core i3-equipped Lenovo Yoga C640 – but slower for most CPU-intensive, complex tasks than AMD Ryzen 5-equipped Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14, it’s still significantly better than that of the Core i3 Lenovo Yoga C640. Below is a chart that shows the specifications of all the laptops we tested, as well as two other comparable systems, the Acer Spin 3 tablet and the Surface Go 2 tablet.

While this is great for ultra-light work, the majority of people will want to go with the mid-tier model, which includes 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and a $699 price tag (PS699 / AU$1,249).
If you want to max out the device, you can bump the storage to 256GB to match the configuration we have for review, and that will set you back $899 (PS899, AU$1,549). However, we wouldn’t recommend this model. A $200 extra for 128GB SSD space is ridiculous and a huge ripoff. Trust us, you’re much better to buy an external SSD.
HP Envy x36013 is Windows’s closest competitor. It costs $799 (P799, AU$1,799) and is remarkably affordable compared to Surface Laptop Go. However, the HP Envy x36013 is only $100/PS100/AU$200 more expensive with the exact same SSD storage. So if your need for an extra 128GB of space, that may be the right choice. We doubt that most people who use this model of device will require an inordinate amount of storage, given OneDrive and Google Drive.
Cons
– Highly disappointing battery life
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go is made for a wide audience with modest needs, who want an elegant laptop that doesn’t cost four figures. You can still see the premium feel of this laptop thanks to its aluminum keyboard deck and lid. The bezels are also thinner than those found in Apple’s laptops.
You won’t call the Surface Laptop Go a powerhouse (at any configuration), but its general performance gives enough speed for general multitasking. Plus, its port selection strikes a great balance between modern and legacy ports. Surface Laptop Go isn’t as reliable as expected. The display on the Surface Laptop Go isn’t bright enough to earn it a spot in our Best Laptops list.
A note about Surface Laptop Go: This review relies on benchmarks after we have removed S Mode. That’s because it is impossible to run our tests under that condition as all our tests are not available from the Windows App Store.
Microsoft Surface Laptop Review: The Affordable One
Microsoft Surface Laptop, Go. (HT Tech) The Surface Laptop Go served as our everyday driver for nearly a full month. Being Microsoft’s most affordable Surface laptop right now, this justified the price to certain extent but one can’t ignore some obvious sacrifices. Here’s the review.
The Microsoft Surface laptops are astonishing to say the very least. These laptops have had some impressively well-implemented versions in the past. We’ve also used them previously and they always feel better. And with a similar aim in mind, the firm came up with its Surface Laptop Go, a ‘budget’ laptop that promises the same, premium Surface experience, at a more pocket-friendly price, which also seems to be the key factor that makes it stand out.
For over a year, we have used the device as our everyday driver. We streamed videos and worked on apps. It is priced at Rs70,000 and comes with a base model. This will make it something people think twice before buying. Let’s take a look at the reviews to see if it is worth spending Rs70,000.
Microsoft Surface Laptop Go is designed and displayed with students in mind. While the laptop is not as slim as other models, it occupies a smaller footprint than most. There is extra room around the keyboard, screen edges and ports that have been removed to allow it to be carried in your backpack. The laptop weighs in at 1.1kg, which is considerably less than what most laptops are capable of carrying these days (1.5-1.8kg). This is a positive sign.

Surface Laptop Go: The Best Mini Laptop That You Won’t Buy
Surface Laptop Go has been my top choice laptop for the past year.
It was obvious that I would love it from the first moment I received the package. From the gorgeous Ice Blue colour of the review unit to the minuscule size, light weight and impressive portability, it was perfect. It was great, despite having slower internals than Microsoft. However, it handled all my daily tasks well.
I’ve long felt that Microsoft’s Surface devices were expensive for what they offered, although not always unreasonably so. The Surface Pro and Laptop both offer the same performance as the other devices, but with an improved build quality. They also come at a comparable price.
Surface Laptop Go had the potential to break the trend and offer a more affordable alternative that is better than the rest. However, this was not true.
Ultimately, the higher-than expected price puts the Laptop Go and myself in an awkward spot. While the Laptop Go looks great, it’s not small enough to be considered a top-quality computer. In the Windows laptop market, the Laptop Go has a lot of competition. The Laptop Go was a great choice for those looking for similar features at a much less expensive price.

We go into detail about how the device performs in different departments. But this is also a long read. We found the Surface Laptop Go to be an outstanding everyday machine, useful for teachers and students alike. The laptop is also a great value. Surface LaptopGo has its faults, though they’re not so significant as to ruin the deal.
If you’re short on time, here is a brief summary of Surface Laptop Go. It is broken down into five points.
Point 1: First, let’s say that we think the Surface Laptop Go model is one of the most important laptops you can buy. It’s lightweight, which makes the PixelSense touchscreen display on 12.4-inch PixelSense feel apt. However, we will talk more about the display in a bit. It feels sturdy and is well worth the cost. As we already mentioned, the lightweight design makes it a great companion for people on the go. Surface Laptop Go comes at a very expensive price. Although we do not recommend the Intel Core i5, 64GB RAM with 64GB Storage variant, it is worth considering. We would rather go for the i5, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD that costs Rs 71.999.
Point 2 – The keyboard is second in strength for the Surface Laptop Go. The laptop’s 12.4 inch PixelSense screen is small, but it has a large keyboard that provides a comfortable and accurate typing experience. It also features 1.3mm key travel. It has a keyboard that is both accurate and comfortable to type on, making it the Surface Laptop Go’s best-selling laptop. The Surface Laptop Get also features a reasonably-sized trackpad with good precision that was used during this review. Microsoft made it easy for users to have a pleasant experience with their Surface Laptop Go every day.
Wait, What? What about another Surface Series?
Microsoft started producing Surface devices back in 2012. They have expanded beyond the original Surface product SKU that was launched early on to offer many different devices. Before we delve into what the Surface Laptop Go is about, here’s a rough timeline of how the Surface family has evolved (excluding the B2B-targeted series):
The first ARM-based convertible. It was called the Surface 3. This third iteration had an Intel x86 Atom CPU and Windows 8.1 natively.
Surface Pro: The mainstay line of notebooks that they offer for office and power users is the Surface Pro. This notebook has survived well from its first edition, and it is currently in its seventh iteration. The Surface Pro 7+ is now available for schools and businesses. This version has more recent hardware than the Surface Laptop. For people who don’t want to use the Surface Pro’s versatility and prefer a regular laptop at school or work, the Surface Laptop was created. It allows Microsoft to expand its range of choices without having the Surface Pro and Surface Book come with a higher price. It’s now in its third iteration , its most polished version to date.
Surface Book: The company’s high -performance range of convertible notebooks with discrete graphics options (which are often overpriced).
Surface Go: The smallest and most cost-effective version of Surface Pro. It’s basically a tablet running Windows OS and made to look like an affordable Surface Pro when opting for the keyboard cover add-on. This was the first of this series, which we reviewed in 2018. There have been minor updates in 2020. Microsoft may seem to have all computing needs covered. Until they realized that Surface Go with its low-powered processor delivered more Windows on a tablet experience, than it did as a viable option for budget-minded users.
In late 2020, the Surface Laptop Go came out to fill the gap left by the Surface Go. The Surface Laptop Go is a thin, light, entry-level notebook that offers just one processor option.
Surface Laptop Go features the latest Intel Core i5-1035G1 quad-core processor (Ice Lake). It is available in four and eightGB RAM configurations, as well as 64GB eMMC drives/128GB SSD/256GB SATA options.
