It’s clear that the TaylorMade 300 Mini Driver looks like TM driver! While I don’t mind the white borders of the SIM2 drivers [reviewed HERE ], I prefer the black of the 300 Mini Driver. TaylorMade has also reduced the use of crown graphics. Combine the all-black color scheme with minimal graphics and a smaller size and you have a club that looks like the perfect players driver.

It’s important to talk about the size of our vehicles. It is approximately 2/3 of the size that most modern drivers are, at 460 cm, and 307cc. The modern fairway woods knock at the doors of 200 cc so the 300 is roughly one and a half times as large. A 300 Mini Driver, to my eyes, is more similar to a driver than to fairway woods, probably due to its tall face.

It is a perfect blend of retro and modern elements in the sole of 300. There’s a callback to earlier TM designs, but the enormous Speed Pocket clearly says it was made in the 2020s.

Let me also mention the cover for my head. Although I don’t remember a stock covering that was as loudlybooed via our social media channels, I must admit I love it. This cover is retro and flirts with the “So ugly, it’s awesome” feel. You don’t have to decide based on where your head is.

Is it all about?

My driving ability is well-known and I don’t think I missed any fairways since 2004. It was then that I began to wonder if Golfalot might have misunderstood me when they asked me to review the TaylorMade Original One Mini Driver.

With my new mindset of using driver off deck, I thought perhaps I could find a use for this club. Perhaps I could increase my fairway accuracy into the 90s.

This club commemorates the company’s 40th anniversary. The 1979 Pittsburgh Persimmon was the first known metalwood.

TaylorMade suggests the Mini Driver that TaylorMade thinks amateur golfers might learn from players like Ariya Jutanugarn or Henrik Stenson who use fairway woods from the tee. This is the first time they have returned to Mini Driver since 2015. (Read our review here.) I realize that I am not the only one who values a trusting, loving and committed relationship with their driver. Most golfers who enquire about tips or lessons ask me for advice on driving the ball. My ‘Taming Your Driver’ masterclass at The Range, where I teach, is over-subscribed!

I am often told, “If my ball could be dropped 220 yards from the fairway it would make me happy” or “I would give accuracy to length”.

This club targets these golfers – players who aren’t confident with their big stick or leave the club behind in the boot.

Verdict

Alex wrote this review because it was his favorite. It is where Alex had the most fun with the club and hitting the ball on Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate.

The TaylorMade 300 Series Mini Driver is a reliable and efficient driver. It also has a nostalgic retro appearance that will be very much in demand.

PS369 per driver gets you the results you need, plus the club’s flexibility allows you hit the road with ease.

This club is difficult to hit offline, and performs better than any other club Alex from GolfMagic reviewed.

You Need to Know

PRICE: PS369.00 YEAR: Beginning in 2019 TaylorMade Original One Mini Driver arrived as quite a surprise considering TaylorMade had already released the high-performance M5 and the M6 vehicles earlier this year. What size does the Original One Mini Driver take up in your bag …?

Golf industry professionals have been very impressed with the new M5- and M6 drivers this year. Although the original One Mini Driver is a new design, it offers something completely different.

The Original One Mini Driver was released to celebrate 40 years of TaylorMade, with the design looking similar to TaylorMade’s first ‘Original One’ driver, but with the modern technology they’ve spent years improving. Although the Mini Driver can’t replace your driver and isn’t designed to travel as far as either the M5/M6 or M6, the club was designed to give you more power, distance, and control than a fairway wooden. Taylormade’s Take on the 300 Mini-Driver

Power comes in many shapes and sizes. Advanced multi-material construction is used to create the compact 300 Mini Driver. It delivers the best combination of low-CG performance with high MOI forgiveness. The result is a unique design, which can be played ‘off-the deck’ and powerful off the tee.

The 307cc head offers unrivaled distance, forgiveness, and control. This innovative design challenges the norm and offers more forgiveness than standard fairway steels. Twist Face is a well-respected corrective metal that offers an extra level of playability.

“What the 300 Mini Driver lacks in stature, it makes up for in speed using the combination of a high-strength titanium face and Thru-Slot Speed Pocket to deliver fast ball speeds.

“This is TaylorMade’s 300cc-range metalwood for the first time since 2001. The name and design pay tribute to TaylorMade’s original 300 Series. This line was a pioneer in the industry, which launched modern TaylorMade Golf.

Taylormade 300 Mini Driver Design & Features

The Mini driver is a walk back in time with TaylorMade designing a retro big stick with just a 307cc club head.

This brings back the original 300 Series with modern technology. You will find more control and forgiveness in this new version. The distance is also much better.

TaylorMade’s Twist Face Technology has been incorporated into the Mini Driver. It also includes the Thru-Slot Speed Pocket, that can be seen in the SIM 2 driver.

V Steel Sole design was one of the main design characteristics. TaylorMade has created a soleplate that weighs only 54g. This helps lower the CG, increase the MOI and produces a high level of launch at low spin levels.

The driver comes in 11.5 degree and 13.5 degree options and is fully adjustable with up to 2 degrees available up or down on the loft and face angle.

Some WRXers were able to obtain the club. Early reviews have suggested that Mini Driver may be staying with them for a long time.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

MaineMariner: Just got back from TaylorMade Wood fitting here in Pittsburgh. To be honest, I was mostly interested in getting some data on an outdoor Trackman setup because I hate hitting indoors into a screen. The Mini was something I really wanted to test out. While I wasn’t planning it, the Mini made me $400 less. You can see more data, but the 300 Mini was straighter than my Epic Flash driver. Straight smoking it, every time. It was amazing to me, a middle handicapper, how fast I could hit the ball. Also, it sounds fantastic, which doesn’t hurt.”

bladehunter: “This guy is going into the bag. Just 20 more hits before you leave to attend kids bball practice. This club is one of my favorites. I have only hit 4 balls off a tee with it, the rest off the deck; that’s how good it is off the deck. And I’m not hitting off a mat. This is tight Bermuda. This isn’t your mini driver. This is a large 3 wood.
