2010. – Revised Model Review. The 2010 Best on Test Award goes to the brand that has been seen more in Tour Pro bags than anyone else. There’s nothing surprising about the R9 powering through our special drivers’ test.

The R9 is an example that shows how the most skilled players worldwide can use their skills week after week. This proves to be a valuable tool for low handicap amateurs. In fact, the R9 was an excellent contender and received high marks in all tests for its appearance.

Chris loved the 420cc head. He commented that it helped him feel more confident and able to control the ball. This was supported by his average dispersion, which is just three yards. R9’s Flight Control Technology (which allows the head position to be adjusted to eight different positions in order to set the club up for a particular ball flight) was also very popular with the panel.

Joel was the lowest handicapped member of the panel and was disappointed with his R9’s distance figures, although they were similar to the results from the other clubs. But he still said that the R9 was great for the feel, forgiveness, and overall performance.

David loved the club all around, but especially liked the high fee and excellent ball flight. TaylorMade’s best news is that Adam had nothing to complain about the club and achieved good results, despite being a handicapper.

There is no doubt the price tage of PS349 will put a lot of people off but you get what you pay for and, in this instance, it’s a Today’s Golfer ‘Best On Test’ award winner.

Taylormade R9 460 Driver Review

A few months back The Hackers Paradise had the opportunity to review the latest driver from Taylormade Golf . R9 Driver was a big hit and has since been in golf bags of all major tours and players around the globe. Flight Control Technology (FCT), was the key feature that set the R9 apart among the other products in the golf market. FCT gives golfers the ability to alter the club’s face angle and loft by simply loosening one bolt from the sole. The shaft is then rotated into the correct position. Is it possible? THP and those who had tried it out several months ago were very pleased with the results. The Hackers Paradise had to be skeptical when Taylormade announced that a new R9 was being released.

We were shown pictures of the R9460 that we received from the original R9 Driver. They look strikingly alike. When one arrived at our offices a few weeks back it took putting them side by side to notice a difference for us. R9 drivers had a smaller head, deeper clubface, lower-back center gravity (CG) and higher-forgiveness. The R9460 driver delivers a greater MOI, which allows for higher forgiveness, spin-rate and helps low-spin gamers keep the ball in mid-air for better distance and carry. Movable Weight Technology is absent from the R9 460 driver. It allows players to modify the ball flight more easily. I immediately thought this would be a problem.

It was easy to take the new driver to the driving range. We managed to convince four golfers who play the R9 to accompany us on the drive to see the differences. The differences are obvious when you get the club and begin to swing the clubs. The R9460 felt slightly more “head-heavy” than my initial thoughts, but I soon realized how beneficial it had been in propelling the club’s head towards the ball. The range was filled with us hitting the ball after another and switching drivers. All of us felt a small distance gain from the 460 as it speeds up and makes it easier to hit balls. Mishits had a lower impact than the R9, which we all observed. However a teaching professional out there with us still preferred his original R9 due to the overall smaller headed look. This did not impact me nor the 3 other golfers who were present. Two of our players indicated that they could miss the MWT if there was a change, since they are fond of playing with them.

The driver arrived in my bag and I was able to test it out on the course. It was like we were just getting married on the first round. My new driver allowed me to reach 14 of 14 fairways. This was my secret weapon. Aldila RE*AX 60g tip-soft shaft fits me perfectly. I didn’t miss any fairways the first three rounds but found that my shots were more consistent than before. I really enjoyed the R9, but the R9 460 fit my swing and my game so much better. The more I used the driver the less I even remembered about losing the MWT in the back of the club.

I found the Taylormade R9460 to be very reliable. What about you? The Hackers Paradise loves to get hands-on experience with our reviews. This was why we brought the club out to an open range so that 18 people could participate in a driver’s challenge. They hit their driver, then hit the R9460 several times. They could then adjust the R9460 to match their play. The new Taylormade driver was preferred by 17 players, while the current Taylormade one was preferred by 17. Ironically, only one golfer preferred the R9 to his current driver. The R9 460’s compact head made him feel that he could get greater distance. The R9460 was loved by most golfers.

The driver’s testing was not flawless. Taylormade has released two Taylormade products that still issue me. I am referring to the latest headcovers on Taylormade’s new drivers. It is a shame that despite being one of the most innovative companies in the world of golf equipment, the company’s headcovers look boring and uninteresting. Keep in mind that this is a very small issue that can be corrected by putting a fun headcover on your driver like the ones from Daphne’s. Second was the stock grip. This should not be described as a “grip”, especially if you live in an area with high humidity. Again, this is just a $5 fix and something most people can do with a driver change. Both of these points aren’t major dealbreakers to me.

It measures 45.75 inches in length and is equipped with an Aldila Re*AX 60-gram tip soft shaft. Available in different flexes (L, M, R and S), the R9460 driver. The club’s longer shaft combined with the increased length encourages clubhead speed to increase and reduce distance. I am used to having problems with long shafts in drivers. However, this Taylormade Burner driver as well as the Taylormade Burner 2009 driver have been flawless. Like I mentioned earlier in this review, it was as if this shaft is married to my swing. However for the first time in a while, it was as if this shaft was married to most of the players’ swings that tested this club.

Taylormade R9 Tp Driver Review

Every year there are new drivers and we rush to try and review them all for our readers. Based on the number of emails we received, one driver was chosen to be The Hackers Paradise’s most popular driver. The Taylormade R9 Driver was this club.

One of us didn’t care much about the R7 head in one of its five models. So we were curious to find out what improvements were made with the R9, and whether it would fit in our backpack. We contacted them and asked to review the driver and we were delighted when a package arrived within just a few days. The driver they sent was not the regular consumer version, but the TP version. This made us smile as we opened it. This made a lot of testers smile from ear to ears. It made a difference for some local teachers professionals who were anxiously waiting for this unit to arrive.

We like the new look of the club. To provide amazing MOI, it has a more triangle-shaped appearance. It is just enough to notice it, but even for players who prefer the traditional head shape, it will not bother you. You will find the “Moble Weight Technology”, (MWT) the most attractive thing about your head. This will give you the power to change the clubhead’s center of gravity to promote a variety of trajectories. Movable weights is not something brand new, but we were glad that they kept it in the R9 because with the rest of the customization that can be done you can really create the driver that works for you.

Taylormade added FCT (Flight Control Technology) this year to many clubs. FCT gives the ability to change the R9’s lie angle, loft, or face angle. FCT lets you change driver characteristics so that the club looks better and your swing is more efficient. Eight positions can be chosen to support eight different trajectories. All eight positions are labeled there. There’s also four additional positions that can be used between them.

THP is more well-known for testing the product in person than it is for its technical specifications. Once we were armed with R9 TP, the team put the R9 TP to the test. Because it was Tour Preferred, we wanted to ensure that the R9 TP could be tested on the first day. We gathered seven golfers who played at a minimum of a four handicap. We let the players hit the driver at each position, and each one settled on their favorite. This was an enjoyable part. I was amazed at the difference in shot quality with just a click of a shaft. There was no one in the group who couldn’t find a position that they enjoyed, which helped encourage straight balls. The sound is something I’d like to highlight. We were pleasantly surprised by the driver’s sound. This driver did not have any hollow sounds or feelings and was certainly not “tinny”. It was exactly what a driver should sound like. It was fun for all seven of us to try it out and get some feedback. While the overall process was simple, everyone loved their driver. However the shaft was giving them trouble. The Motore shaft was included with it because it’s the TP version. It is STOUT! There was very little play at the tip, and it felt “boardish”. That was the only issue we had with it. Ironically, the R7 TP was the most popular version among the players who were present with us. However, almost everyone said they prefer the R9 model.

Course play was the next stage of our test. For two consecutive days, we took four people out to the course. We all used an R9 driver. Every person could even play with it prior to the tee shot. Once again the remarks were all positive. One thing to note is that if you have never been fitted for anything or watched different ball flights, this could be a real treat. Each member of the group liked the way the driver chose. The experience of seeing the ball go in that direction and having it drawn by someone with a dog leg was incredible. These things are quite common in the world of golf, and this one certainly works.

We only received feedback from extremely skilled golfers so we decided to go out on a practice round at a public range with all levels of players. We walked the length of the range, and saw 17 players try this new club. Each player was able to speak with us and we watched as he used his own driver. After that, we handed the R9 back to him and adjusted it for his needs. Each of 17 golfers found a set that was right for them and helped them to hit their shots straight. It was truly amazing. We have never had a driver in all the testings we have done that fit this many people. It is clear how important it really is to have your driver fitted.
