Bottom Line: These irons offer game-improvement-like performance hidden deep inside a classic, compact design. Speed. The updated Speed. Slot Technology allows for slightly higher and more consistent ball speeds, resulting in more distance on mishits. While the SLDR irons are cast, the sound and feel aren’t a distraction.

TaylorMade has been SLR-ing all things within their product range. So it was only natural that the irons would be in the mix.

Many people mistakenly believe that SLDR stands for “slider”, which is an acronym. However, they cannot use it as a branding name because someone else owns the right to it. It was clever marketing because the original SLDR driver had a sliding-weight sole.

SLDR is now a well-known brand.

Now we have the SLDR irons, that as well as sliding the money, will also slide through the turf. Will the public of golf buy these irons?

Visually they stand out in the current range from the matt silver finish of the TaylorMade Tour Preferred Irons TaylorMade Speedblade Irons because they have a shiny chrome finish, which looks pretty good.

However if you want to see this for yourself you may struggle to do so unless you head to a TaylorMade Tuned Performance Centre, as this is the only place you can get them.

Therefore, I made the trip to Kingsfield near Linlithgow (central Scotland) to get the complete fitting experience. It was also a great opportunity to discover what really sets these irons apart among the TaylorMade line.
