Taylormade Golf – The Tour Preferred, Tour Preferred X And Project (A) Golf Balls, Updated For 2016
October 30, 2015 – TaylorMade Golf – TaylorMade Golf’s second most popular ball brand is currently in the top ten of the Official World Golf Ranking. Three Tour staff members are in the top ten. The 2016 lineup includes the Tour Preferred X/X, Tour Preferred, and Project (a). TaylorMade’s latest line-up of golf balls offers outstanding feel, performance, and spin around greens. This line-up was immediately successful as Justin Rose, a staff professional, switched to the new Tour Preferred X ball before he won the UBS Hong Kong Open.
TOUR PREFERRED GOLF BALL
TaylorMade’s Softest Tour Ball: This new Tour Preferred ball (four-layer construction, 80 compression) features TaylorMade’s next-generation Speed. The mantle inner layer is made of a more flexible and softer material than the last generation’s. Engineers developed the new mantle, which is softer and more flexible than the previous generation. It also retains the high performance of the Tour Preferred ball.
Tour Preferred provides a greater launch and more spin to long irons. While maintaining the same distance off of the tee and greenside spinning as the Tour Preferred X the ball feels softer. TaylorMade’s Soft Tech urethane coating is still present on the Tour Preferred. It’s the firm’s most resilient and durable. The Tour Preferred also features Low Drag Performance Aerodynamics, a 322 dimple pattern, that gives tour players the distance they need and allows for more penetration through wind. Tour Preferred was designed to be used by players with all levels of swing speed who are looking for a soft tour-performance golf ball.
RRP: 58 EUR per dozen. Available: 15 Dec 2015.
TOUR PREFERRED: XGOLF BALL
TaylorMade’s Tour ball with the most control: The new Tour Preferred X ball (5-layer construction, 87 compression) features a new thicker re-engineered Soft Tech cast urethane cover for more greenside control and the same LDP 322 dimple pattern found in the Tour Preferred. As its predecessor, The Tour Preferred X offers low spin from the tee, a low iron flight, and greater greenside spin. It is preferred by some of the most renowned players worldwide.
Taylormade Tour Preference X 2016 Golf Ball Review
Tour Preferred X, like before, is a five-layer construction to allow for a slight lower flight of the longer irons.
The compression ratio is 1 to 87. Soft Tech’s cast urethane covers are slightly thicker and have the same 322 dimples that the standard ball.
The Tour Preferred X felt a bit firmer on and around the green than the regular Tour Preferred, and was very similar in many ways to a Pro V1x.
The X is more suitable for high-spin or swing speed players, but if you decide to base your decision on the feel of the greens and not spin, this difference will make it easier.
Except for the greenside feel of the ball, the performance numbers clearly showed the differences between them. Tour Preferred X spins a lot more using a wedge.
You can see the Tour Preferred’s higher launch and spin with the longer irons. The Tour Preferred stops quicker, but has less roll.
Although the driver’s performance at my swing speed was fairly similar, the Tour Preferred may have the edge since it covered the same distance with a slightly slower average swing speed.
2016 Taylormade Project (A). Golf Ball
An upgraded Project(a) model will be joining the pair of tour-style balls. This replaces the original Project (a), which was introduced last year in order to give amateurs more spin from distances 30-50 yards.
You can continue your quest for the 2016 version with a compression of 70. This 18-lower than the previous 88 model. This makes it more comfortable off the face, and gives you an easier time taking approach shots.
It is because amateur players generate almost 50 percent less spin than tour players, who can compress the ball at impact much more effectively.
Apart from these changes, the Project (a), which is a new version, still uses many of same technologies as its predecessor, including the REACT core to increase distance, plus the Soft Tech cast rubber cover that gives the balls their spin and feel.
TaylorMade golf balls pricing 2016 Prices All three new TaylorMade golf balls will become available on the 15th of Dezember, the 2016 TaylorMade Tour Preferred two-piece costing PS44.99 a dozen, and the 2016 TaylorMade Project (a), priced at PS34.99 each.
