The TP-Link Archer A6 is a dual-band gigabit router that’s designed to provide some nice upgrades and features at a budget-friendly price. It includes features like dual 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and MU-MIMO beamforming , marking it out as a great upgrade for anyone using a budget router that’s more than a few years old. Although it lacks some of the features that you might get from a budget router, overall its value is excellent.

Specifications don’t always tell the whole story, so I recently spent about five days with a TP-Link Archer A6 plugged into my own network. The TP-Link Archer A6 was subject to daily usage with several data-hungry gadgets connected simultaneously. I also tested the range and speeds on each band.

Wireless Performance

We will be using a laptop with an AC1200 wireless card to test the speed of the Archer A6 and compare it against the Archer A7. We will be using Ookla’s Speedtest.net to test to This will be unfair to the Archer A7 as we are not using the full potential of the A7 when using an AC1200 receiver. But most current devices support AC1200 so the results will reflect real life.

Here are the results. This shows that the Archer A6 runs slightly faster when paired with the AC1200 Receiver. It is most likely due to the Archer A6’s newer wireless chipset that supports beamforming.

If I have an AC1750 client with me, then the Archer A7 can easily beat my Archer A6.

TP-Link Archer A6 is a great affordable wireless router. I don’t think any other wireless router can offer the same performance as the Archer A6 at a lower price than the Archer A6. This router is very reliable and offers strong coverage. This router is a great choice for those looking for an affordable, but high-performance wireless router. This router should be able to connect up to 10 connected devices and an internet speed of 500Mbps.

The downside is that it doesn’t have a USB connection. You can look at the TP-Link Archer A7, which we have reviewed.
