States demand Lifeline protections for Verizon/TracFone agreement last fall. TracFone will be acquired from Mexico-based America Movil for up to $6.9B. It applied to the FCC to have its application expedited. TracFone works as an MVNO. However, it uses Verizon’s LTE networks for the bulk of its traffic.

The Communications Workers of America (CWA) union also has raised questions about the transaction, saying the FCC should demand a commitment from Verizon to participate in the Lifeline program for a minimum of five years.

T-Mobile was one of the many who had opposed streamlining of the application. It suggests the transaction deserves the same amount of scrutiny and review that T-Mobile acquired Sprint.
