In 2016, under the leadership of Tim Clarke and his staff, Wilson Golf dared to do something outside the box in an effort to increase visibility and presence of one of the most historic brands in the history of golf: Wilson-Staff. Driver vs. Driver became a reality-based competition. This allowed for the creation of a Driver vs. Driver contest, which would allow participants to explore outside of their box designs and then bring them to life on television in front of millions. The Eric Sillies-designed Triton won the contest. It brought a flexible option-based driver to market, creating more buzz than Wilson had in a while. The Triton driver is much more than just a driver which won a television design competition. The head is packed with technology and adjustability that makes it a great tool for a fitter or a tinkerer. It is more efficient to highlight these features than to just talk about them throughout the article. This will allow you to understand not only their purpose but also if they played any legitimate role in this review.
Visible swing Active Technology:
It only makes sense that the Wilson Staff Triton’s most visible feature should be the one to discuss first. Sillies’ alignment strategy was at the heart of Driver vs Driver. An alignment device was placed on the driver’s top to help with alignment, which is something that many amateur golfers find difficult. Aside from the precise width of golf balls, the idea behind the design was to extend the length of the club back, so it could provide visual cues for golfers upon takingaway and when they square their faces at impact.
We have never seen an alignment aid like it on a major OEM vehicle. It is incredibly effective in terms of performance and provides a striking contrast. Gloss silver is more noticeable than the black crown. The fact that it has been recessed into crown makes for an aesthetic much better than painting stripes over the head. Is it really possible? That, unsurprisingly, will be totally up to the individual. For this reviewer, it became a sort of set it and forget it feature on the tee box before every swing.
