The Wyze App helps you control your Wyze Thermostat

Wyze’s app can be confusing as the description doesn’t mention that it supports thermostats. What’s more, recent updates have driven customer reviews down, with a 3.8-star review on the Google Play Store and a 3-star review on Apple’s App Store.

The Wyze Thermostat’s operation is simple via the mobile app. The geofencing option is more reliable than the IFTTT feature and doesn’t require your precise location. The Wyze Thermostat is similar to the Google Nest in that it gives you full control of automated features through IFTTT or geofencing.

The Wyze app can’t be used to monitor and maintain your HVAC system. The Nest Thermostat works well with it. Although recent updates have hampered the app’s overall favorability, it still works quite well with the thermostat, and Wyze is continuously trying to improve it.

Cons

While materials may feel somewhat cheap Wyze’s quality-packed thermostat makes it a formidable force to be reckoned.

The thermostat may be a bit expensive in terms of materials but it’s easy to use. Adjusting the temperature at the thermostat (as opposed to controlling via the app or Alexa or Google Assistant) is easy to do, and though the Wyze Thermostat doesn’t have the “learning” abilities of the Nest Learning Thermostat , it has plenty enough smarts for most people.

This review was updated on March 3, 2021. Wyze now supports Google Assistant. Our testing showed that it works well.

Setup Is Easy, Even For Beginners

Credit: Whitson G. The installation of the thermostat was as simple as any other feature.

Most smart thermostats do a decent job of walking you through the installation, but Wyze goes above and beyond with its in-app tutorial. From turning off your circuit breaker to verify compatibility, taking photographs of wires and setting up your new thermostat correctly, it walks you through all the steps. It will also ask you whether energy savings is more important than comfort. Comfort keeps your system at the right temperature and helps you get to work before the schedule. The program will also assist you in setting up your first schedule so that you won’t be too fussy after you’ve done the initial setup.

There were some minor hiccups along the way. There were a few minor hiccups, such as asking me the type of fuel that my “W1”, wire was using instead of simply asking me how fuel my heating system uses. If this is a new concept to you, then it might seem confusing. But overall, I found the walkthrough more detailed and helpful than most other thermostats I’ve tested , which will please first-time thermostat installers.

The design is quite intuitive

The initial setup is completed. Wyze’s app can be accessed by clicking on the Wyze thermostat. This will show you the current temperature and humidity. You’ll also see the setting for the thermostat. The thermostat can be adjusted by tapping the button. However, the app is quite simple. After changing the temperature it takes 5 seconds for the system to recognize your change. You can slide up the Controls panel along the bottom to switch between modes, adjust the fan, and change your state to Home, Away, or Sleep.

Those states determine how you set your schedule. Wyze, unlike Nest where you can set whatever temperature you like at any moment, uses the same method as Ecobee. First, select one of the presets available and then choose different times. The initial setup can seem a little confusing, but Wyze helps you navigate the system. You will also find it easy to modify or move your preferences later. Wyze does not allow for you to make presets other than the three above, however, this may frustrate some more discerning users. The app performs as you’d expect. The app responds to temperature changes, my thermostat adjusts in seconds. My home screen doesn’t have too much information. The system should be suitable for most people.

The Hardware Feels A Bit Cheap

Credit: Whitson, Gordon. Wyze Thermostat’s ease-of use is unbeatable.

This thermostat is a good design in theory. It has a tiny, non-touch screen that shows current temperatures. You can also adjust the temperature using a wheel located on the front. A motion sensor built into the thermostat “wakes it up” when you move by.

There is however a significant difference in the build quality. Although the Wyze device’s wheel works well, it feels less expensive than other models. Pressing inwardly on the wheel to select an option is more difficult than necessary, which could hinder navigation. Ultimately, this is to be expected for a $60 product, and frankly, it didn’t bother me in everyday usage because I rarely touch the thermostat hardware. (After all, the whole point of a smart thermostat is automation and voice control .) It’s an insignificant drawback considering the price.

It is a great deal and it can be compared to more costly options

The Wyze Thermostat isn’t perfect, but it’s an insane value for the price provided it fits your ecosystem . You will find it compelling even in comparison to other more expensive thermostats due to its intuitive software and easy installation. This smart thermostat is compatible with both Alexa or Google Assistant.

The Nest Learning Thermostat is our top choice if you are looking for something more durable. Even though the thermostat’s list price may be higher, energy companies often give them away for free or at a substantial discount.

Wyze Thermostat Wyze thermostat solidly built. It is a great deal for the money. Wyze cameras, smart plugs, and other products are my favorites. They all have products that I am very happy with. All of them work flawlessly within the Wyze App. Wyze is working with Energy Star to optimize the thermostat. I have no doubt that future firmware updates will add more features to the thermostat. The Wyze Doorbell is up for review. Preorders are open and will arrive next month. It seems like we’re becoming a Wyze house.

We recently adopted an 1 year old shelter dog. He was shy, and we knew that when we brought him home, he wasn’t well-socialized. He was given a month for adjustment to new environments. After four months of our dog walking in the same neighborhood, we decided to move on. I took him to a quiet cemetery by our local reservoir. Shortly after we started our walk, I fell. It spooked the dog, and his leash slipped out of my hand. Like a bolt from lightning, he took off in the woods. It took us four days to rescue him. To finally get him back, it was necessary to enlist the assistance of the rescue organisation and local community. This was an awful ordeal. The Thermostat

The $50 Wyze Thermostat features scheduling, Home, Away and Sleep modes, remote access from your phone, usage data and suggestions if you’re looking to save money and a geofencing option that’s supposed to switch automatically between Home and Away modes.

Wyze has also promised an upcoming feature called “automated learning,” which is similar to Nest thermostats that can adjust heat and air conditioning for you based upon past adjustments.

Wyze’s new Doorbell and Thermostat are still being tracked down.

The Wyze Smart Thermostat is $50 and you can preorder it now

Wyze has been on a roll lately, with the announcement of a $50 set of ANC headphones and a $30 videodoorbell. It’s back again with new products, including a $30 video doorbell and $50 set of ANC headphones. Today the company opened preorders on its $50 thermostat. This thermostat is nearly three times the cost of Ecobee and Nest’s most expensive models. The Wyze thermostat will be compatible with all 24-volt systems including forced air, heating, oil and gas. Wyze will supply a Cadapter wire to your system if it doesn’t.

You won’t see a touchscreen in the smart thermostat because it is cheaper. The thermostat can be controlled with the Wyze App, the Wyze app, and through Alexa or Google Assistant. The thermostat can be set up to notify you when it’s not there.

Wyze Thermostat integration with Wyze sensors is not yet clear. However, Wyze promises that there will be a learning mode. The Wyze Thermostat’s idea, like the Nest Learning Thermostat (which tracks your habits and adjusts accordingly), is to track them.

The Competition

All of these models were tested by us, and while they all met our criteria, some had lower prices than ours. However, we could not recommend them due to their flaws.

Emerson Sensi Touch is an upgraded touchscreen version of the Sensi Wi-Fi (a previous budget pick in this guide). It offers geofencing, but you must set your heating and cooling independently. There is no way to customize geofencing settings or set temperature for Home/Away/Sleep. Instead, the thermostat will adjust 3 degrees every time you leave a 3-mile radius.

Wyze Thermostat, the most affordable smart thermostat that we have seen, uses geofencing with a motion sensor and geofencing to detect you and switch between Home and Away. Our testing showed that the system continued to operate for seven to ten hours per day despite geolocation being very unstable when we were away. A pre-cooling/heating option is not available. This meant that it took very long to cool off our home and never reached the desired temperature. Wyze’s promises of learning features and remote sensors (to sense temperature, humidity, motion) have yet to come true. While it is compatible with most HVAC systems, and requires a C-wire to work, this device comes equipped with an adaptor.

Honeywell Home Round (originally the Lyric) is appealing design-wise. There’s no need to purchase this thermostat instead of its cheaper sibling the T5, unless the T5 has more compatibility or the T5’s space-age circular design matches your home’s style.

Johnson Controls Glas smart home thermostat was inspired by Star Trek. Although it is 21st century, the intelligence of its Glas smart thermostat relies on its occupancy sensor. Otherwise, it works just like a programmable thermostat you can control with Alexa or Google Assistant.

Lux Kono features a novel scheduling feature that allows you to see how energy prices will rise or fall based on what you do. They also offer multiple-color faceplates and can change them. The click-wheel interface does not work well. There were reminders placed behind the faceplate. Multiple owners have also complained about inconsistent temperature settings and other problems.

I. Devices Thermostat features a very small, bright screen. It has no dimming. Its user interface is confusing, and the physical buttons don’t light up, so you can’t see them in the dark. It has geofencing but otherwise is just a programmable thermostat, and changing a Schedule once you’ve set it is tricky.
