Z Grills Collection

Z Grills currently offers three distinct types of grills and a variety of configurations.

The “Basic Series” includes the smaller models 450,550, and 450A. This model comes with (you guessed right) 450 square feet of cooking space.

Between the 700 and 700E series is the 700E which include the popular 700E along with the 700D4E. This is the most popular size.

There are also the 1000 series, which has the biggest grills like 1000E. Within each series, you have plenty of choices with different color configurations and storage options.

If you need help choosing Z Grills has a handy comparison tool that lets you plug in up to 3 different models and compare the specs.

1. The Z Grills 700D4E Wood Pellet Grill & Smoker is our top choice. This 700D4E model, an upgraded 700D version, has a number of unique features making it stand out in the Z Grills lineup.

The main grill boasts 697 square inches of cooking space. This is split between the main rack (504) and the tops racks (193). It is available in stainless or rolled steel, and has double-wall insulation.

The things I don’t like:

One shelf only – You can’t use the lid of the hopper as a shelf. But that is the only area you need to place things. I like to have a side or front table for setting things down while I cook.

Z Grills 700E Pellet Grill

See our Z Grills 700E complete review. Though it is older and somewhat less expensive than its 700D4E counterpart, the 700E grill still has some merit, particularly if you get it at a special price.

Although it is made from stainless-steel, its body does not contain the double-walled insulation as the 700D4E. Although the 700E does not have a lid gasket, this doesn’t mean it leaks much smoke when starting up but seems to be able to maintain a constant temperature.

You will still have 694 inches of open cooking space, closed cabinets storage, and large coaster wheels. The new PID controller and pellet cleaning hatch are not available.

You can configure the upper racks on your grill. The upper racks can be configured to have either one or two. This gives you a lot of control over your cooking space.

Here’s What We Enjoyed

It’s a great price point. While the 700D4E may lack some of its features, it is still an excellent grill that offers a lot for the money.

Flexibility – With the adjustable upper shelf system, you have complete control over the way your grill is set up.

What we didn’t like

The screen of the 700E has an extremely small LED screen that regulates temperature.

Although the 700E grill is an excellent value for money, there are a few design problems with the 700E, including the control panel. These were fixed by the 700D4E. If we had to spend an extra, though, it would be worth the money and go for the latest version.

What We Don’T Like:

Struggles to get hot enough to sear – All pellet grills are marketed as “do everything” machines. Searing, however, is the area that most struggles. Searing on Z Grills is the same. With an oven temperature of about 450°F, you will have trouble sear.

Cleaning ash and unused pellets – Some greasy ash tends to build-up and there’s no easy way to remove unused pellets. To ensure that you do not damage your household vacuum cleaner, invest in a small shop vacuum.

Other than these points, this grill is perfect for cooking meat, temperature control is simple, and grill construction is superb.

This can make it confusing because they are listed under one listing on Amazon. Make sure to choose the option that interests you.

The Z Grills website has the most current price.

You can read our complete Z Grills 10002B2E reviews. Next to the 700 series you will find the 1000 series. They are Z Grills largest-selling grills.

Similar grill designs exist, however they introduce a third rack. This allows for more food to be fit.

Temperature range

Z Grills can heat from 180°F to 450°F, which is fairly standard for a pellet smoking device. The 450degF temperature is recommended for searing and grilling, but we don’t think it heats up enough to cook well.

Traeger’s upgraded temperature controller allows most Traeger models (with exception of Renegade) to now attain 500 degrees Fahrenheit. This is not an expensive extra but if you want to make it possible to do everything on just one unit this will be helpful.

Note that, some Camp Chef’s and Pit Boss’s do have a slide and grill function so you can cook extra hot directly over the firepot. You can see our Traeger and Camp Chef comparison or read the Pit Boss and Traeger reviews. The bottom line is that neither Z Grills, nor Traegers are good for grilling. Traeger is a bit hotter than Traeger. TRAEGER.

Eddie. This review of Z Grills was hard to complete. There was a lot of information scattered, and even the website did not provide any helpful advice.

When I clicked on the live chat button the person was very helpful but not able to help me a lot.

As I tried to get more information and to include the Zgrills in my pellet grill reviews page, I came across an article by bbqdryrubs.com which stated that these pellet grills look a lot like the Traeger pellets.

They look more like Grilla grills, according to someone who emailed me. It is possible that all this is the reason for low prices on the zgrills pellet smokers. They take out the middle man and start selling the same pellet smokers under their own name on the American market.

Many Z-grills reviews have many of the same pros/cons as mine in Traeger Reviews. This is what makes me more confident that this truth is accurate.

Better Grills Rating : 4.4 Not many people were able give their Zgrills ZPG450A experience, but they gave it an average of 4.

My little higher rating in this very limited Z-grill 450-A review is based on the fact that there were a few complaints about packaging and that has nothing to do with the quality of this pellet smoker.

Z Grills 1000E Review

Z Grills 1000E has three cooking tiers and an enormous hopper, which can be used to smoke for up to 20 hours without refilling.

Since the beginning of January, we have tested this grill under below freezing temperatures.

I Like

Image credit: Courtney Reilly / Backyard Boss After we got all the parts in place, we began the initial firing instructions. Everything worked perfectly and went just as the instructions indicated. We had to burn off all oil and any other oils that were not required. This took just over an hour. Then, we started to prepare our brisket. Because we were excited about the first cook, we neglected to put tin foil on the grease drain pan. It was easy to clean and didn’t take too long.

You can cook in no time! All you need is to control the heat and leave the cooking process to the grill. The grill’s many features combine to ensure consistent temperature and perfectly cooked food each time. Let’s not forget about the incredible flavor that is infused into your food. Z Grills Smoked Brisket Recipe was used. Cherry flavored wood pellets were also used. The result was a wonderful, delicious, mouthwatering meal that we could not stop eating!

You’ll also know from my previous reviews that the cookbook is my favorite feature of any new appliance. Z Grills had a website that offers endless amounts of information, but there was no book. They offer detailed information such as my method, types of food, holiday and more!

It is so easy to set the temperature on the grill and then let it do the rest.

Another feature I’m a huge fan of is the 8-in-1 cooking versatility. I was initially skeptical about pellet grills as we don’t have the capability to barbecue hot dogs and hamburgers. My two little picky eaters were also concerned. Luckily, with the 500c (as well as many other models these days), we can do all that and so much more.

The grill’s design is modern and rustic. I love the bronze details and the wood shelf is my favorite. The perfect station for prep is also available.

What is the life expectancy of Z grills?

The wood grill pellets used in Z Grills burn at about 2.2 pounds per hour at high temperatures (more than 356 degrees) and 0.66 to 0.88 pounds per hour when cooking low and slow (Smoke setting or 225 degrees). A 22-pound bag of pellets can last anywhere from 10 to 25 hours depending on temperatures and conditions.
